Hello All
I downloaded windows xp pro and I signed up on windows live messenger,now when ever I sign into Yahoo messenger I get a annoying message telling me that someone wants to add me to their list.. I tried everything it's a system message on Yahoo how do I disable it from popping up... or find the source that is creating it.. I asked msn live but they give me the old run around... ty Gary
Simple really.
On the pop up are a couple of buttons.
One ALLOWS the contact to see you and interact with you and the other DISALLOWS the user to see you.
Always good for a start.
If in doubt read exactly what it says ion the popup.

I hope this is the right way.. this is what that message says word for word at top of box reads System at 8:11 and in box reads in blue Print System: Your contactis using Windows Live (MSN) Messenger,and wants to add you to his or her Messenger List.To start sharing instant messages,you'll first need to get the latest Yahoo Messenger with Voice at http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php That is all and it only has a close button on it nothing else and its been annoying me for months... Did you really download it or install it? If you downloaded (downloading is the process of copying something from a remote computer to your computer, installing is the process of setting up a program from disk or legally obtained install file onto your PC) then you probably have an illegal copy of XP.Quote:

Actually it would make a difference Gary. If Microsoft deemed your operating system to be illegal then it is possible that some functions of the OS would be crippled. Also if it was true that you had an illegal copy of an operating system then we would not be keen to help out with that.
First, it DOES make a difference in answering your question. If you were using a bootleg copy of Windows it could cause you problems in using those services.
Second, it makes a difference in our helping. We do not support pirated software here. So if it was pirated, you would find answers drying up.
Third, you seem to have a mistaken impression of how sites like these work. Once you post a question it is the prerogative of anyone else to make any applicable comment. I can and will respond in any way I choose to any question posted here as long as I stay within certain guidelines imposed by the site. There are different ways to help with a question then just by answering the specific query.
Apparently you took offense at the suggestion that you may have an illegal copy. I'm sorry if you took it that way, but computing is a very precise discipline. If you use the incorrect phraseology in describing your question you might not get the answer you seek. So I did provide help but educating on the correct terminology, thereby making your life easier in the future if you should need to ask a similar question about another app you install. As well as maybe helping others who might browse this thread and learn the difference between downloading and installation.
So maybe you need to take the chip off your shoulder and look at my response in the spirit it was offered and thank me for my efforts instead of being rude about it.

Does anyone actually have an answer for this question? I use Gaim to integrate accounts on Yahoo! Messenger, AIM and a couple others into the same client, and about two weeks ago I started getting this same popup from Yahoo! Messenger.
I do NOT use MSN Messenger software OR Yahoo! Messenger software; neither is even installed. And yes, my copy of WinXP Pro is perfectly legal.
I agree with ScottGem 100%. ScottGem's experience is what you're getting here and his experience with Windows is what's driving his question in the first place.
If you've done nothing wrong then you shouldn't take offense to the question. If on the other hand you thought you had a legal copy of Windows and it turns out that it wasn't then the problems you are experiencing could be caused by a potentially illegal copy that you didn't know was on your machine. Eitherway, ScottGem's experience would quickly eliminate (or pointout) a problem with the OS itself that would save you and us all a whole lot of hassel. I'm positive that if we all together discovered that unbeknownst to you that you had an illegal copy that ScottGem would be the first in line to guide you on a fix.
Besides, you're asking a forum for free advice. The least you could to those whose help you seek is pay them with politeness.
