How do we have someone committed into mental hospital in Mississippi
My farhter-in-law tried committing suicide just a few days ago on Farther's Day. My husband and I both are at our wits end trying to figure out what to do. He is currently in the hospital in the ICU unit but they are saying he will be released in a day or so if their hospital doesn't have room for him in their ward. What do we have the right to do if anything? He has been diagnosed with depression and has a lot of other health problems. We need help

This is a tricky situation. Is there a history of depression? Was this the first attempt?

Has there been a psychiatric consult? If not, your husband may be able to discuss this with the doctor and get one. Most likely a psych consult will be done prior to his discharge as the psych's cannot do a consult until the patient is completely free of medications.

The hospital cannot release him just because they don't have room. He has to be considered medically and mentally stable to be released. If he is not, and they don't have room, he will have to be transferred to a hospital with a higher level of care.

Yes this was his first attempt that we know of and yes he has a history of depression. He has been in and out of this hospitals ward at leas 4 times in the past year and he is suppose to be seeing a therapist every week at our local timber hills.

Not sure if they have done the evaluation yet but will definately have my husband find out. He has already admitted to the dr at the er that he took an over dose of his insulin before they had him transfered to a larger more equipped hospital that he's at now. Accordin to my husband he has told him that he has been thru so many evaluations that he knows what to tell the drs so they will release him. He lives with my husband and i and our daughter and has no other family around this area.

At this point his doctor will have to hold him over for a evaluation. Issue, and it sounds bad, does his insurance pay for mental health?
