At the time of the Big Bang and subsequent cooling the initial elements produced were primarily hydrogen and helium, with a smattering of lithium (i.e. the lightest three elements). So the first stars were made exclusively of these elements. Heavier elements , such as carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and so on up through iron were synthesized in the interior of these stars as thermonuclear reactions converted the lighter elements to the heavier ones. Elements that are heavier than iron - such as nickel, copper, zinc, gold, lead, uranium, etc - are created when stars die in a nova explosion, scattering their constituents elements into space. These elements then become the constituents of next generation stars and planets. Thus the iron we have here on earth originated in novae that occurred long before the Sun and our solar system were formed.

Sounds like someone's science class homework.

I know the answer... what do YOU think it is... and tell us why you think it is that.

Knowing why is as important as the actual answer.
