I've never filed a claim before on my homeowner's and now need a new roof. Just wondering do I pay the deductible directly to the roofer? Also will this make my premiums go up because I filed a claim? My claim has already been approved by my insurance company. Thanks.

The insurance company will pay for the claim minus the deductable amount. But depending on the type of policy they may also reduce the payment by depreciation. Also many companies ( like State Farm) will pay the depreciation amount only after the roof is finished.

1. there are more con or crooked roofers today than honest ones. Never pay or give them money up front till they start the job. At the most, only pay them about 25 percent on the day they start, never before they start and never ever never before there are shingles on the ground at your home.

4. But yes, you will pay your deductable amount to the roofer unless there is some agreement. Example if you have a low deduct it is not unheard of for the roofer to do the job for just what the insurance company pays.

What are the circumstances of you needing a roof? If it's just because it's old, then insurance will not cover it. If there was damage (ie. A tree fell through it), then insurance repairs the damaged portion. The circumstances make all the difference...
