    Steering wheel and key locks
    Hi,

My brand new 2006 Toyota Matrix (which I really enjoy) started giving me problems when I try to turn the key on, it stays locked. I also noticed that my steering wheel is also locked like when you turn it and the car is off. It's the second time it does this to me. It is not the normal steering lock that you just give it a shot on the left and it works. It's different because I can't unlock it right away and it does this without having played with the steering when the car is off. The key doesn't turn at all!!

Any ideas to help me out woould be greatly appreciated!!

    thanks!!

Likely an adjustment problem between the interlock lever, which is controlled by a solenoid, and the key cylinder. All of this is part of the Key Interlock System.

In certain ways the car is parked, ie: making a left into a very short driveway with an uphill grade to it. Now you're parked up to the garage door. The wheels are stilled turned, and the gravity wants to pull the car back. Do you park in any of these examples like this?
Try this where ever you park. Turn the steering wheel straight before you turn the key off, and get used to applying the e-brake. Now see if the problem duplictes and get back to us. I think you have a normal condition. I know these cars very well and never see a problem with the steering/ign lock. Read page 116 of your owners manual again.

One more note: are these the factory keys? Not aftermarket cut.
