Bolshevik Bernie supported dumping nuclear waste in poor Latino Texas Community
Bolshevik Bernie supported a proposal in which Maine and Vermont would dispose nuclear waste at a proposed site in Sierra Blanca, Texas, which is a predominantly Latino and relatively poor community. He co-sponsored the bill .Today, Texas is home to one of the nation’s few facilities that accept low-level nuclear waste. Since 2012, Waste Control Specialists in Andrews County has disposed of contaminated tools, building materials and protective clothing, among other items, from shuttered reactors and hospitals. Environmentalists have closely scrutinized the site as it has broadened the scale of the waste it accepts, but the company insists that it is safe. The site has seen minor spills and leaks, according to federal regulators, but those had been localized and properly cleaned up. BUT during the Clintoon reign ,it appeared destined for Sierra Blanca (population roughly 500), which sits about 90 miles southeast of El Paso. In 1998, the U.S. House — with Sanders’ support , approved a three-state compact, which Bubba signed into law, that paid Texas to take waste from the northeast. After Congress approved the compact, Texas environmental regulators rejected the Sierra Blanca proposal. Now here is the kicker . Bernie's wife Jane was a paid member of the Texas Low level Radiation Waste disposal Authority .(TLLRWDA) No doubt she got the job for her expertise in nuclear waste disposal . It doesn't pay much ;just $4,900 . Still Bernie's claim to fame is pointing the finger J'Accuse at any pol who takes money from special interests …. his wife profiting from a nuclear waste dump is telling .

tomder55: I am not surprised by any of these revelations. There is probably not much "risks" in handling this waste, and it sounds like they are geared up to do this type of work, but its the same old song about the garbage of an affluent area of the country being dumped onto a poor area of the country and the whole idea for such being proposed by a Presidential Candidate that is supposed to be "of the people, for the people". Its hard to look NOBLE after pulling a stunt like that. You begin to question all of it in terms what makes it turn out like this: You can bet that little brown eyed beauty spot AOC, who comes across as a true ideologically driven young lady who believes what she says (you don't have to agree with her politics to see that), will one day ALSO be corrupted, if she isn't already, by the very "system" she vowed to combat...she, too, will be "consumed".

Sanders is not really known for sponsoring legislation . That requires work and he is not really into that. You could look long and hard to find meaningful bipartisan legislation that has his name on it . So it is telling that he sponsored one that like Vac mentioned ;dumps the cr@p on the poor . It is also telling that his wife just happened to have a spot on the governing board that makes nuclear waste policy . $4900 is not a huge sum . But one can only imagine the other pay offs .

You know in 2016 he campaigned against "millionaires and billionaires " This time around he excludes millionaires from his rants . Wonder why ?

Unlike the spineless Republicans who kowtow to the Party leadership, Octavio-Cortez is contributing support to individual candidates, and not to a committee she doesn't always approve of. Not only is that not wrong, it's a good thing.

His personal wealth has risen those campaign contributions make a difference, means you are not spending your own money. It is all driven by OPM, whether it is taxation or contributions, it is all OPM

I have to give the devil his...'er, her due: I don't agree with AOC's politics much if at all but I really like her spunk and willingness to wade into a fight or even start a fight! Give her some credit: I like fighters....got a lot more respect for someone who actually fights for what they believe in as opposed to those that refuse to and toe the party line...that is, as Athos said, spineless. I personally think the Democratic Party is very fractured and rudderless right now, perhaps more than it ever has been in its history. Its going to take people like AOC to "reinvigorate" the Democratic Party: It may never take on the exact same form/architecture of the party it was before and may "look" much different but it will be a party with new ideas and plans rather than the dull, lifeless party it is now. Anyone who doesn't like AOC from the Republican side, I can understand why...but anyone on the Democratic side that doesn't like AOC, I can't imagine why you don't: You should embrace her, cherish her, and learn to love her because she is best thing going today! AOC is star on the rise!

AOC and Bernie are really independents with no choice of a third party, they actually represent spoilers just as Trump did in 2016 and it backfired. Don't think Bernie will have the same luck this time

They are more radical than Euro social democrats .Not only do they cater to the gimme-ism of the 'ask what your country can do for you 'crowd (but don't ask how it gets paid for …… Bernie says he doesn't know or care how his $60 trillion plans are supposed to be paid ) . ......But their plan is to make their give-aways international ie the green new deal (projected to cost $93 Trillion alone ) and open borders with benefits for illegals .

What we do know by the simple math is that their plans to eliminate the wealth of billionaires doesn't make a dent in paying for their plans Fair warning to all .
"Some people are like, 'Oh, it's unrealistic, oh it's fake, oh it doesn't address this little minute thing. And I'm like, 'You try! You do it.' 'Cause you're not. 'Cause you're not. So, until you do it, I'm the boss. How 'bout that?"(AOC's brilliant analysis )

Her plan is not just converting the whole American economy to using
renewable energy in a decade and establishing a "zero emissions transportation system." It also includes things like "guaranteed" federal jobs, "universal health care," and "food security."

We have seen the Dems drift this way before when their stale leadership allowed an upstart movement to take over the party . That year they lost a 49 state electoral disaster . The Republicans can only pray that the Dems embrace these 2 clowns .

She was molded into a candidate by Saikat Chakrabarti Corbin Trent along with other democrats of the so called Justice Democrats ...funded by George Soros and Tom Steyer .Nothing about her is real . The sole reason for her PAC is to build her war chest and to personally enrich her . Her cries of poverty from 2018 are long gone .

On the OP, nothing like facts to seperate the spin from the facts, beginning with verifying the context of low nuclear waste as stuff hospitals throw out.

    https://nvdatabase.swarthmore.edu/co...osal-1996-1998

    And the real story

    http://www.txpeer.org/toxictour/merco.html

    http://www.wcstexas.com/facilities/c...aste-facility/[/FONT]

Fact is Red State Conservative Texas takes stuff for a fee to throw stuff away. Not unusual for politicians to get together for that purpose in a mutually beneficial business transaction. There were indeed many players in this transaction Tom, not just Bernie, and to be fair, players with monied interests. Now I did search for how a VT connected pol could be on the TLLRWD, and found she wasn't the only VT on the board, and as far as I know is just an alternate for the 3 other board members. This old story got dredged up during election season, and again during this election season. Drama and intrigue aside, is this that big a deal or yet another example of making a cowpie into a mountain? Judge for yourself folks, as I doubt VT cared what Texas did with stuff it was paying to have shipped there, and maybe ask GWB, the original dufus, and his Texas cronies what he had in mind at the time.

As to the current primary season, too early to call, but as the votes come in the next month or so, we get a candidate to rally around. I'm always glad when the wild cards and divisional playoffs are over and we get to the championship game! Go DEMS GO! Kick repubs in the A$$!

the real story is how I wrote it . IN his whole Senatorial career there are very few bills he wrote or even co-sponsored . It is telling that one of them is to dump dangerous waste in a poor ,minority community .

As for Jane Sanders . There is no logic justifying her being an alt on the board . She apparently likes to take jobs she is not qualified for . She managed to drive a financially stable college into the ground under the crushing weight of debt while she was President of the college . Burlington College's search committee had said it wanted a candidate with proven fundraising experience. So it hired a President with none except that she is the wife of a Senator . So she gets this extensive vision of expanding the college which required a $10 million purchase of lake front property . Bernie improperly pressured People's United Bank to approve the loan and Jane Sanders intentionally overstated pledged donations in applying for a loan .Pure fraud committed by both . 10 months later she resigns citing differences of vision of the future with the board of trustees . But in truth the school was in a downward slide since the loan and the debt it incurred . The college lost it's accreditation . It went out of business May 2016 .

tomder55: I had no idea about Sander's financial question marks around pressuring a lender and his wife's poor showing in business...interesting.

Talaniman: I don't think the nuke waste stuff is anything like what comes out of a reactor, by any means! But the way it looks is a going to be used against him in the campaign: Perception IS reality!....that's the way it goes these days.

Yeah it's a real story I can agree, as you wrote it, but what makes it a non story is its the same story from years ago, and you left out the other folks involved in the story like Bernie was the single driving force of the deal. My point is the nuclear part was more spin than fact, and the states of VT, and Tx, were the bigger players of which Bernie was the signee. That's the only point I make on what your posted. You make it sound like Bernie was the mastermind and this was the only example of dumping garbage in poor communities, and that is just not factual. Bernie running for president again has just revived this particular story. I don't argue your assertions at all though. It ain't right!

She isn't the only spouse to be involved in stuff while the connected spouse is in office. She got cleared by the FBI investigation though like all the others before and after her. No way am I defending her or the disgusting shenanigans of the political class all too prevalent, but who else does the political swamp attract, but swamp critters? Choose your own critter explains the dufus doesn't it?
