    Prairie dogs are burrowing rodents. Given how they like to live, would not survive this way in captivity.

    Why do you want to do this ?

    They are burrowing communal animals. In zoos they build extensive enclosures with lots of dirt. Cages are not acceptable for this type of species. Note that it may be illegal to keep a wild animal without a permit.

    To build an enclosure (not a cage), you'll need at least 1/2 an acre of land, lots of dirt, cement wall at least 5 feet high around the 1/2 acres, and then a colony of prairie dogs.

    Even that is cruel, in my opinion. But if you want to keep them locked up, that would be the only humane way to do so.
