This is for anyone who uses Pinnacle Studio 9 or has any other useful suggestions...

I use Pinnacle Studio 9 for editing video, the problem is, whenever I make a video (finish editing and click "Make Movie") nearly every time the video and audio sync is all screwed up, they don't match - usually about a one second difference. I never had this problem before, it just started recently when I upgraded to version 9.4. I capture in MPEG and output in MPEG and that's when the sync problems occur. I can capture in MPEG and output in Real Media and there is usually no problem at all.

What can I do.. this is so frustrating!!

Trying to contact Pinnacle's help is just a complete disaster and their online help doesn't usually address this problem. It's like no one else in the world has this problem, could it be something with my computer, or would it be a software problem?

I've heard of problems like this before but I can't remember how it was solved. I'll think about it and post here again if I remember. It's probably a setting to do with the compression or something like that.

Thanks very much for your help! It was nice to see on that website that I'm not the only one with these problems. It appears that the company just makes software that sucks... because it seems like everyone else has the problems I have, too. I will try uninstalling the most recent patch I downloaded, because that seemed to make it the worst.

I think the best bet for me would just be to purchase Adobe Premiere, but it's just so expensive. Thanks for your help, if you have any other ideas, please list them.

I am not knowledgeable on the video aspect of computers but I have heard through a grapevine that you need to run the system files and the video files on separate hard drives or you will get what sounds like the problem you are having. This could even happen on Adobe Premier. I am sure you are already doing that but I thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks for your response... Right now I have a 160GB hard drive on my Dell and I have actually been using it for system files and video files... but I know I should be using a second hard drive (so as not to be stressing that one), I just haven't purchased one yet. I have a few old ones laying around here, so maybe I'll mess with them first and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your input!

Does it matter if a hard disk is attatched horizontally or vertically? I don't think it makes a difference, but could it affect the performance?

I've noticed that the duration on Timeline is not quite the same duration in realtime. Could there be some correlation between the two problems? In other words, the 1-second on Timeline is a bit slower than an actual second. If I want a still photo to appear on screen for 5 seconds, for example, I'd have to lenghten the duration of that photo to 7 seconds, maybe 8.

Thanks for your response. Although this question is FAR out of date... I believe it has something to do with the digital drop-frame issues. Perhaps the timeline does not drop frames like it is supposed to.

We've since moved on to bigger and better editing software. Pinnacle is just absolute crap. There's no excuse for software that freezes, doesn't render correctly, and that doesn't provide useful support - that's just corporate laziness. Get Premiere or Final Cut. Much better.

I've heard the negative reports about Pinnacle Studio for a long time; isn't a shame though that it's the easiest to use.

Ahh, that is true... I remember it being super-easy to use... when it worked right, of course. Maybe a newer version would be better... I think there are one and two more versions since. I've heard of Ulead's version... and Nero I guess has some editing software. I don't have much experience with any of the others, though.

Look on Ebay, you could probably get an older version of Premiere for a good price. Honestly, if you're editing already, I don't think Adobe Premiere would be too hard to learn. I learned it really fast without reading instructions.

There is a Pinnacle Forum group on Yahoo Groups and I have found it very helpful in the past . Give it a try..

Again, though, like I said, we've moved onto better software. It's been a year and a half since the original post. Hopefully some other searchers will find it useful, though!

One problem that seems to happen with Pinnacle Studio video editing is when there are two file types in one sequence. If one video source is AVI and the other is another file type, you can find lip sync problems with either.
Make sure that you're only using one file type per sequence/project.

If you read the above, you'll see that this was solved a looooong time ago. We haven't used Pinnacle Studio in 5 years. Thank you, though, for taking the time to help out.
