What are everyone's preferences when it comes to a prime lens? I think I'm going to go with a 35mm but can't quite make up my mind yet. It would be used mostly as a general purpose lens... no specialty photography.

Here are two interesting YouTube videos on the topic:

Thanks... both were great videos. I think the 35mm is in my near future.
For general photography a 50mm lens is the industry standard. 35mm is considered wide angle. Depending on the quality of the shots you want to take then get a multi lens like 28-70mm. Also if F stops are important check that before buying any lens.
Fstop is important and I like the tight upclose shots. In a lot of what I want to photograph I think itd be easier to get closer rather than pull back to get the shot I want.
Sounds great! I appreciate the help!
If you have been using a zoom lens you can go through your photos from before and see where you are naturally shooting at e.g. I had a 24-70 and was tossing up between the same as you, but going through archives I realised my natural shot was 90% around the 50mm mark. So I went with 50.

Since we are talking about angles. Check out this video. The camera angles are awesome and so is the song.
