Really***read this first***"Best Of" and Other important Information
Well, finally going to get this started, a Sticky with what we believe are some of the more interesting threads that can be found posted in the Electrical and Lighting Forum.

Plus look for reference materials, tables, charts, Code sources, etc.

This will be a work in progress, regarding format, content, information, etc.

    Suggestions will always be welcomed.

As this thread grows and evolves, it, I believe, will be the first stop that should be taken to help with understanding the vast details of the electrical industry. We find that often we need to explain some details of the systems before we can get to the real answer of the topic.

    LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

We need to know in which country, sometimes state, that your located, so that we can give accurate answers.

Stay tuned. And check back often, (hopefully).

Correction for Residential Feeder Sizing Advice
Ok, I guess I will get this started with this information, and basically a correction of previous advice given, by me and others:

This is as good a place as any to mention this, Table 310.15 (B) 6 of the NEC is not allowed for subpanel feeders. I had misused this table myself in the past. So, #4 copper, for example, cannot be used to feed a 100 amp subpanel, only to feed the main service.

All experts, and any others that offer advice here, please take notice, and cease and desist from offering Table 310.15 (B) 6 wire sizes for residential feeders.

Table 310.15 (B) (6) is to only be used for conductors SUPPLYING the main service panel or disconnect.

After then Main Panel, Table 310.16 must be used to size feeder conductors.

    Correction on Feeder Sizes
Past advice for feeders have been to use Table 310.15 (B) 6 for any residential feeder.

This table is ONLY for feeders supplying current for the entire service.

Beyond the service entrance feeder, Table 310.16 must be used.

A good explanation, and confirmation of this was found here:

    Any Interest in this Thread??
I was under the impression that others had information that could be added to this thread.

Or ideas of what would be good to post.

I see no interest so far.
