He's married and a father and off limits. I've been a cashier and yes, you can ignore him -- or at least his flirty comments.

Then you turn away and get busy with counting bills and making sure they are in their proper slots in your register.

When you are married some day and are at home struggling with two kids, are you going to be happy for your husband who is at working flirting with cashiers?

You ignore him, if he flirts too much, ask him to stop, or ask him how his wife and kids are.

So have someone else help you.
How old are you? And he?
    Not that matters, just curious.
My guess is that you are young and you find this inappropriate attention flattering.
Don't be flattered if it weren't you it would be someone else.
If the question is how to stop it, that's easy as everyone else has already stated. Keep your attitude professional and aloof, and don't encourage it by playing into it.
He is playing with fire and you don't want to be one of the people getting burned.

You have two choices. You either make sure you maintain a business like relationship or you report him to the HR department for sexual harassment. If he is making you feel uncomfortable, that is illegal.

Do you work for a large chain?

This is a link to an employee handbook from a large Arbys franchisee:

Arbys sexual harassment policy - Bing

Page 7 discusses workplace harassment. Does your franchise have a similar handbook? If so I would make a copy of the page(s) that deal with harassment and leave it in his locker or office anonymously.

So maybe you are doing the flirting and interpreting his words and actions toward you as flirting back at you?

You "think" you do? Such a handbook would have been required to be given to you when you were hired. Copies should be accessible to any employee.

Doesn't sound like a properly run franchise.
