    HIPPA violation
One of my coworkers(we are in medical residency) was hospitalized for the birth of her child and was later told by the hospital that there were multiple (upwards of 20) times that her private medical record was accessed by people from our hospital. Because we are in residency, all residents and attendings have privileges at multiple facilities and therefore can log on to electronic medical records. This is how the hospital picked up on the fact that unauthorized physicians were looking at her chart. They even told her that all of the people were in our specialized field, which is far from obstetrics. Our supervisor has repeatedly called her physician's office asking detailed questions about her health problems. The hospital is refusing to release the names of the people that illegally accessed her medical record and they are trying to offer her a settlement. Does the hospital have to give her the names of the people who accessed her file without authorization? What sort of an attorney would she need to file a lawsuit concerning this type of HIPPA violation?

If she wishes to sue the people who looked at her file * co workers* she can but I will be honest if she does, most likely the work conditions will most likely go bad. Just being honest.
She will need to shop around, there are few law suits in this area, so there may or may n ot be a real expert attorney in just this field. But a civil rights type attorney. If she starts a law suit they will be required to give that info
