Hope you haven't given up on getting some form of advice or an answer to your question! I work for a Hearing Center and can only offer advice! I am not a trained consultant or licensed in any way... I'm just the receptionist with a fancy, smancy title- Client Care Coordinator ;) Although I was offered the position I just didn't have the time to devote to the training necessary... so please take what I have to say as simply advice.

The only way to get a true answer is to find somewhere to have a hearing evaluation done. If you don't go to an audiologist find somewhere that offers a very comprehensive testing... (like where I work... the test is very comprehensive starting with ruling out medical issues that cannot be dealt with in our offices and the testing is always free)... Since you've had the tympanoplastic surgery you may be better off seeing an actual audiologist... but most places that offer hearing evaluations, if respectable, will at least talk with you, find out your history and look for visible trauma and other medical issues... then you'll be referred to a doctor/audiologist... I always tell potential clients that if money or insurance is an issue they can at least be seen in our office (or the office of their choosing) for free... then they'll get at least some of the answers (or possibly all or even a solution) without the expense... but if money/insurance is not a problem then I would suggest seeing an actual audiologist.

Hope this gives you something to go on... and remember... I am NOT licensed... I just know what I know and offer you some advice based on a year's worth of working closely with hearing impaired clients and with licensed hearing specialists... :)
