    Mobile Home Tub
I'm reinstalling a garden tub in an early 80's mobile home. It has an above floor drain, and I'm a little confused as to how to hook it up. It is against a wall with no access to the drain from the rear or underneath. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first experience with plumbing a tub. The drain is of course already in place, and the new tub is just like the tub that came out.

    Good morning June,

Now I'm a little confused. You say the new tub is just like the tub that just came out. If that's the case then hooking up the drain should be no problem.
Please explain what a "above floor drain" is. Are the drains in the same place or not? I really don't understand what your problem is. Can you not get to the drain to hook it up? Is the new drain located in a different spot then the old one? Please explain your problem in a little more detail. Regards, Tom

    Hey, speed.

Yes, the tub is exactly like the one that was taken out. The problem here is that I'm not the one who removed the old tub. I have no idea how they unhooked the drain. It looks to have a flange nut above the trap that should screw onto the drain, but I don't know how to get under there to screw it together. What I mean by above floor drain is that the tub bottom doesn't rest on the floor. The trap is recessed into a cut-out in the floor, and comes up about 4 inches above floor level to meet the tub drain. Thanks for your help.

    Hey June,

That flange nut is called a compression nut and it connects to a tail piece that comes down from the drain. There should be a tee with a female thread that the tailpiece screws into. If there isn't one they can be picked up at most hardware stores. Since you failed to give me the brand or model of the new garden tub I can't be more specific in my answer. Good luck, Tom
