    Roof repair
I have a roof 10 years old, Architectural shingles. I am getting leaks coming through my living room ceiling. It seems to have happened when we got a wind blown rain. Had two roofers look at it... one used tar and renailed to fix loose shingles... and said roof was done poorly... (old contractor out of business) The shingles are pitted and in order for me to get any money from shingle company (owens-corning) I have to send 2 shingles from roof, pictures, etc. Then shingle will be prorated. As they were a 25 year shingle.

This is the only roof on house, first layer... one roofer wants to replace entire roof as he said Architectural shingles should never have a second roof over it as the water will still find its way. Other roofer guarantees that he will put roof over existing roof and promises it will never leak again.

What should I do... can some of the roof be taken off and replaced? I new roof is so expensive and I am at my wits end...

    Thank You

"wind blown rain"... was that the only time it leaked ?

Did the "old contractor" tell you what was done poorly ?

Because of the varying thicknesses of the Architectural Shingles, I would not overlay. You can buy single shingles, replace 2 of them from a sheltered area and send shingles in.
