I changed the transmission fluid on my 1995 ford explorer xlt. I than drove it around the block and the overdrive off light started to blink and the transmission was struggling to change gears. I couldn't get the overdrive off light to shut off. What is my problem?
That light flashing means the transmission control module has detected a fault.
Make certain that the fluid level in your trans is correct and have the codes read and diagnosed. It may simply be coincidental that something failed when you restarted your truck after changing the fluid.
I'm having problems with my transmission it only moves in reverse...
No other gear allows it to move... should I look for a specific problem in it or will I have to replace the entire transmissino?
Allso make sure u put the right filter one is flat the other has a little nipple coming down out the center,not sucking enough fluid and slipping it will set a codeQuote:

More then likely what it will be is when you take apart the transmission if you check your forward drive clutches and steels they more then likely are going to be burnt up. Check the fluid for brown tint and a burnt odow. Have the forward drive clutches and steels replace as well as the fluid and fiilter. The steels and clutches for that should total about $28 dollars. Just go to Dacco.com or if they have Dacco around you just order the overhaul kit, filter, and steels and clutches. The total will be about $110 then rebuild it and put it back in yourself. It's a farely easy transmission and it beats paying a couple grand at least for a transmission shop to rebuild it. Yes when your o.d light is blinking your transmission is in "limp" mode. If you check your filter and it's on right and you have proper fluid level but the light still flashes. Unhook your battery for about 5 minutes and let the codes reset and then hook up the battery and try it and see if that fixes the problem I had to do that a couple of times when I rebuilt my transmission also.Quote:

1995 ford explorer xlt automatic 2wd doesn't shift and my transmission wiring harness is missing the O/D sensor been looking for one with 7 plugs and can't find one anywhere but could that be the problem ?
Yes, wormlou1, you need to make sure the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) is good. Besides being the neutral safety switch, it tells the computer what gear you are in. This is an 8-Pin connector and likely what you are referring to. AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts should carry the correct "Neutral Safety Switch" for your Explorer.
How-to Remove and Install a Transmission Range Sensor (TRS)
The Neutral Safety Switch is part of the TRS.
REMOVAL:
1. Place gear selector in Neutral.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Remove air cleaner and air cleaner outlet tube.
4. Disconnect electrical connector to the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS).
5. Remove retaining nut (13mm) and control lever from transaxle. Use a large adjustable wrench or suitable wedge, to prevent the control lever (i.e. shaft coming out of the transaxle) from rotating.
6. Remove both TRS mounting bolts (8mm).
7. Remove TRS.
INSTALLATION:
1. Clean and lubricate the shaft coming out of the transaxle.
2. Align the Neutral alignment marks on TRS, using a pair of needle nose pliers. This accomplishes the same thing that the Alignment Tool T92P-70010-AH does; i.e. lining up the two slots on the TRS wheel with the “V” index mark on the edge of the TRS.
3. Install the TRS, ensuring it is fully seated on the shaft, and loosely install both mounting bolts.
4. Verify alignment.
3. Tighten TRS mounting bolts 9-12 Nm (80-106 inch-lbs.) and remove tool, if used.
4. Connect electrical connector to TRS.
5. Install control lever--tighten retaining nut 11-16 Nm (98-141 inch-lbs.). Use a large adjustable wrench, to prevent the control lever from rotating.
6. Install air cleaner outlet tube and air cleaner.
7. Connect negative battery cable.
8. Check for proper operation with parking brake control engaged. The engine should start only in Park or Neutral.
