    As is pertains to gravity

    I believe in geology the term "excess density" means there is a different density of material in certain ground layers than nominal. This in turn causes a minute effect on the local gravitational constant g, which can be measured. In this way it's possible to determine where underground deposits of ores or oil & gas may be located.
