If it's a threatening email as you say, why don't you report it?
  • Jan 25, 2013, 03:00 AM
    Saumya123
Before reporting it I have to check who have send this so I can make a complain.

I just want to know whether you can help me to find the email sender

This is a matter for local law enforcement.

The best an IP search can do is find the ISP that sent the mail. From there, you need a warrant to get the actual sender. That's why you need to report it to law enforcement so they can get the warrant.

Do what, talk to the police? You go to your local police station or prosecutor's office.

The sender is from a gmail account

I am writing to a forum in my collage so the email sender(from a gmail account) have asked me to NOT to post anything to the forum. That is NOT a big issue to go and complain. So what is the alternative thing I have to do without going to the local police

Actually I was writing to a forum in my collage, the email sender has asked me to NOT to post anything to the forum. Without going to the local police is there any alternative method to find the email sender.

You started by saying this was a threatening email. You were told to report the threat to the police. Now it is just someone asking you not to post to a forum... nobody is going to care about that.

Let it go. Forget about it.

And please don't send me any more PM's asking how to find the sender. I can find where it originated but can't tell you from who... and aside from that, this hardly sounds like something worth doing anyway.

If someone has asked you not to post to a forum whether its on your college or this site or any other, then you either contact the manager of that forum to see if that person has the authority to block you or you drop it.

For example, if you violate the rules of this site, you could be banned from participating. That is our prerogative. This is true of anyone who manages any forum. The "owner" of that forum or someone they designate has the right to control who uses their forum. If it's a college run forum then talk to the IT dept.

But this doesn't seem like the level that would interest law enforcement.

I have never misused the forum in my college, posted only study matters. Every body can see that even my teachers. But they have asked me to NOT to write to the forum and has send an email to my personal email address.

But the college and my personal email are NOT related to each other. Therefore I cannot complain to the college. I just want to find who has done this as I have received several emails.

You can't find out who. This is what we keep trying to tell you. The most you can find out is the IP of where it was sent from. You will never find out the person that sent it from that list of headers you posted. And the only way to find out is if there was a legal investigation... which will not happen as it seems pretty clear now that there were no real threats.

Yes, that is more than enough if you can tell me where it came from.

I'm not getting that far involved. You said threats, now we know there were no threats.

They have given me the last warning as well.
If you can read this you will realized whether it is a what sort of message. It has written in english but meaning in sinhala lanuguage.

If the forum is run by the college, then you certainly CAN complain to them. But it sounds like someone was able to find your personal e-mail and send you those notes. There is no way you can find out who sent it and least not without law enforcement. I would ignore the e-mail and block the address.
