I am trying to install a Sapphire X1650 Pro ATI Radeon video card. I installed it in the video card slot and booted the computer up. The screen will work initially. When it goes to load the hard drive, I get the following error:

Have Option ROM can not be invoke (Vendor ID:... )

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

When I take the Sapphire video card out and put in my existing card (ATI All In Wonder 9600XT) everything works fine.

I am guessing either the Sapphire card is incompatible with my motherboard (Abit KW7 KT880+VT8237) or I have installed the power cord that goes from the video card to the power supply incorrectly.

I tried disconnecting the power supply from the video card, but when I boot it up then, I get a bunch of blurred color lines on the screen. I can get into BIOS with the X1650 installed, but have no idea what to do from there.

The four power cable can only go one way and it would say "plug in power". It sounds like you need a bios upgrade. Go to your mobo's website and get the latest Bios and flash it.

To validate BIOS condition.
1) Restart tapping F1 key.
2) If keyboard inactive, click Esc key
3) Keyboard arrow left, to Advanced option.
4) Keyboard down to Video > Enter
5) Confirm video output (Onboard/PCI-E/PCI) matches card.

More often than not, you will have to use the onboard video output to access BIOS and make adjustment before rebooting and setting video properties for card and monitors.

If you are sure your BIOS video output is already correct,
Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings Tab >
Click on Display to identify what outputs are being used, and use this to enable new cards outputs and thenafter, disable onboard output.
Reboot.

For faster screen results:
Enter Display properties again, and reduce *color quality* to Medium (16bit).
Reason? The human eye can't tell the difference between 16 and 32 bit color, and your video cards processor results faster when not processing in 32 bit color. Try it and see. Especially important when running Vista as its such a resource hog, and needs all the help you can provide.
Running Vista? 3.2GB system RAM equals 500MB WinXP results.
