    I don't know if I am pregnant
My boyfriend and I had sex on July 3rd and I began my period on July 1st. We had unprotected sex and he ejaculated inside of me. I am not on any birth control pills or any of that. I thought that since I have my period, I shouldn't become pregnant. Help!! Please! What are the chances of me getting pregnant!?

Wow! You definitely did a bad thing. If your not trying to get pregnant, you should never have sex while on your period! There is an 99% chance that you are pregnant.

This is hard to explain (I'm sure someone else could explain this better than me later lol) but the best time for someone to get pregnant is when they are on their period because once the period starts an egg is present (waiting for sperm) to make a baby.

Make sure you talk to your boyfriend about it so you and him can make a decision on what to do.

    You should be all right.

I'm sorry but that just isn't true. There isn't a 99% chance you are pregnant because you had intercourse on your period. You need to talk to your parents about this so that they can take you to a doctor, that way you can at least get birth control and be informed. Ask your doctor about this one, they can explain it more.

I am going to my parents but for now, I just want to do my research. Can you explain your opinion on why hotpotato2009's answer wasn't true please? I don't want to be confused.

I'm not sure if I can, I am fairly sure it's illegal for me to give advice like this to a minor though... let me refer a moderator who knows more, if it can be answered they should know too.

So, why be on a site where you are suppose to Answer questions?. (makes no sense) but OK.

Answering a question isn't quite the same as advising a minor, without parental consent it can be a legal issue more than anything. I'd love to help, but not at the expense of a legal ramification. It doesn't mean I care any less.

You can get pregnant on your period, but no it is not the most fertile time of the month for women.

Either way, please talk to your parents or a planned parenthood so that you are using birth control and protection.

Remember unprotected sex = pregnancy, no matter what time of the month you are having it, you are playing with fire.

"Justwantfair" that's why I made that point saying that somebody else may be able to explain this better than me. Don't fault me for being wrong. We all make mistakes. Lighten up!

True, but unless we know for sure we shouldn't be answering.

You wanted someone to come and explain that your statement that someone is most furtile while they are on their period, which wasn't an accurate statement for someone to support.

A mistake is one thing, your tone and it is a fault to post wrong information. We are a Help board, in order to 'help' information should be accurate, with as little judgement as possible, especially misplaced judgement.

I'm a firm believer in Google if I don't know enough, that or I just say I don't know enough. You kind of did that, which I can appreciate, just in this case it wasn't accurate and you freaked the girl out. It's a learning experience, I yelled at someone the other day for posting on the adult board not even realizing it was in teen.

Had to spread the rep, but I agree.

Hot Potato, this is not the guess site, this is the answer site.

I realize that there are lots of forums, many questions, if you don't know the answer then don't answer. It's never okay to guess, or to pull number out of nowhere.

The people coming to this site need answers, not guesses and the response you gave, which was completely false, could have had horrible consequences for the young person asking. Thanks goodness Justy came along and corrected you before the OP left with this info.

Why not stick to sites where only opinion matters, like the relationship forum. Pregnancy and New Motherhood is not an opinion based forum, it deals with facts.

    Thanks

No one could give you a percentage of being pregnant. You can go to your doctor or wait till you miss your period and take a HPT test

This is absolutely 100% NOT true. To have your period, you have to ovulate. Once you ovulate, and the egg is NOT fertilized, it flows from the fallopian tube to the uterus. Since there is no pregnancy hormone, and the egg is not fertilized, the uterus sheds it's lining... hence your period.

Now, it is still possible to get pregnant on your period, but rare, not definitely 99%. That's hogwash.

You see, most women ovulate somewhere in the middle of their periods. The egg is only viable for fertilization for 24-36 hours, after that, if not fertilized, you get your period. Now, a man's sperm can live in your fallopian tubes for up to 5 days. So, if you have sex 3 days before you ovulate, you have a risk of pregnancy.

I am a labor and delivery nurse, I know how the male and female reproductive systems work. ;)

The only way I think you can get pregnant during your period is if another egg is released.
