Very good response. You are correct. What you have done is no better or worse than using a metal repair flange. I let my typing get ahead of my brain. I have been trained to only use a wax ring for a seal between the toilet and the closet flange. Nothing else. Just because I was taught this way doesn't mean that there aren't other ways to do things. I think your ( or your father in laws) way will actually work just fine. Just glad you got it fixed.

Like I said to all of you before you helped me out big time just to get the whole concept of this thing etc. So I will keep my fingers crossed with you and hope for my sake for the best. Who knows one day I maybe asking you all how to change a lead pipe to a cast iron stack... I think it is cast iron but that will be left for another day. Again all take care.

I think you are confusing two different areas of sealing. Pretty much all flanges require a wax ring to seal between the flange and the toilet which are never at the same height. You fill that void with wax. Now when it comes to installing the flange into the pipe wax is definitely not used. The twist-n-set has a collar that expands as you twist, this is your seal with no wax. There are other repair flanges with 3 screws around the inside that, when tightened, also expand a neopreme collar.
