    plumbing backup problem
I have plumbing backup problem in a section of our house. About once a year it needs to be snaked. The washing machine discharge pipe, kitchen sink and guest bath sinks all backup at the same time. After it has been cleaned everything works fine. However, the new washing machine discharge flow is so great it will almost always overflow, clean pipes or not. Can I restrict the discharge flow without damaging the pump on the washing machine? How?

House: 1975 single story, ranch style.
Washing machine stand pipe: 2" diameter x 4 ft.

I have the same problem with my 1 1/2" trap and stand pipe. I solved the problem by making it a closed system. This way the discharge is forced on through the drain line instead of backing up the stand pipe. I installed a compression fitting,(see image) on the stand pipe making the connection water tight. Good luck, Tom
