I have a moen Monticello two handle bathroom faucet. The handles keep falling off. I've had it fixed once and decided it's time to figure out how to do it. Any thoughts? Does it just take a special tool? Any help will be appreciated.

Does your faucet look like this? If so, the handles just screw on, no tools required. Now if the valve body itself is loose, you will have to get under the sink and tighten the anchoring nut, this may require a basin wrench, the nuts can be quite tricky to get nice and tight. Thanks for the response. Yes, that is my faucet. Here's my problem: that handle will come apart in three pieces. The part you hold which has the red or blue ring, will unscrew from the elbow, which is what turns the water on and off and then the fat base that screws onto the counter. My elbow has fallen off the base. The base is still connected but I don't see how the elbow stays attached to the black center that moves freely from the base and actually turns the water on. Does that make sense?

So the fat base is still on but the 90 piece has come off? Ok, so here's what you do. Grab the base, turn it counter clockwise and it will unscrew from valve body. Then look up the base from the bottom side and there should be a philips screw that connects the black stem to the 90 piece. Find the screw(may have fallen down into splines on valve body,) and secure the black stem back onto the 90. Then reasemble. Let me know if this helps. Lee.

I have the same problem. Do I have to turn off the water at the main to unscrew the fat base?

No you you don't need to turn off the main, look under sink there should be angle valves one for hot and one for cold, good luck.

As long as you are only taking the handle assembly off, there is no need to shut water off anywhere. Of course, it never hurts to shut the water off just for extra insurance.

I have the same faucet. The whole handle lifts off at the base. I can sit it back on and it will turn the water off and on. How do I tighten it down to stay on?

Look on the bottom of the handle for a Allen setscrew and tighten it down. If you have lost the screw replace it. Good luck, Tom
