I have a double sink and when I run the garbage disposal it back up in the other sink. I have used a plunger and chemicals but the it will not drain. The water just sits in the other sink. Do you have any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a major clog in the drain line in the wall. The solution is to remove the "J" bend from the trap and go into the wall with a snake. You will hit a bend about 8 inches in but crank and work your way around it and you only have to put out about 5 1/2 feet more. After, flush the drain out with hot water. Good luck, Tom
Many times the drain is clogged like tom said. A few times the baffle in the sink waste gets clogged too. To clear that I use 2 plungers [or a stopper and a plunger]. I close the disposer and plunge the strainer. I plunge backwards. I push down slowly to bleed the air out then do sharp jerk motions to dislodge. This way I feel I am not impacting the clog but rather breaking it up. And since I am using vacuum rather than force I never blow out a loose slip joint.
