Can a brine tank make the water smell bad coming out of the faucet? We have well water (well has been working fine for the last 9 years), but now the water smells like an oil refinery. The smell dissipates very quickly. Can the brine tank cause the smell?

    Hi Jrice

Brine tanks can develop odors over time...well systems can also develop odors, depending on ground water, displacement issues and/or contamination. How is your neighbor's water smelling. If unsure, I would consult them and double check on that.

Finally, it is probably a good idea to change out the salt/potash and clean everything new if everything is accessible, that, or call a certified well guy in to look at the entire system. You may even need to get a free water analysis done...;)
