Over the past few days, strange things have been happening in my apartment that I moved into about a month and a half ago. Appliances turn on and off by themselves... it started with the DVD player - at first I thought maybe our DVD player had some loose wiring since it was the only thing that was turning off & other things were plugged into the same outlet. Then other appliances started going on and off one at a time. When this happens, I really don't feel unsafe. I don't feel like I'm in any sort of danger - it's more irritating than anything else (especially when I'm watching a movie & have to re-boot & find my spot on the DVD again). When this happens, it's almost just like someone is trying to play a joke on me.

The scary thing that is happening is when our bathroom taps turn on by themselves. I can hear them creaking like someone is turning them on really slowly. Then when I go into the bathroom, the water is running. I shut it off and the same thing happens again - never when I'm looking at the taps but when I am standing outside the door in the hallway or in my bedroom. When this happens, I feel scared and threatened. I feel like someone is watching me & I don't like being in the apartment. I feel especially scared when I actually have to go into the bathroom to turn the taps off - like I'm not wanted there. Around the same time that the taps have been turning on, I have been smelling smoke - cigarette smoke to be exact - I checked outside and didn't notice anyone smoking outside. I checked the hallway of our building & didn't notice the smell there. The smell tends to be in my livingroom. The first time the taps turned on and I went to turn them off, I noticed that the door to the baby's room was opened - I specifically remember closing it earlier (so I didn't have to look at the boxes I have yet to unpack from our move).

I feel like I'm going crazy. I think my boyfriend thinks that I'm losing it partially because it doesn't seem to happen when he is at home. I am having a baby soon & don't want to feel unsafe in my apartment... is there something easy I can do to get rid of whatever is happening? I noticed on another page that someone recommended burning sage - maybe I'll try that but I'd love to hear others' thoughts.

Maybe you could check the history of the apt, I'm sure they have records, if you really wanted to know that is. It sounds like it is definitely haunted to me though. Babies can see spirits and ghosts so you'll soon find out if something is there.

I say this with all love, you may wish to check your health just in case,


But why not turn on and run a video camera to see if you can catch these things on films.

But this is some gerneral things in hauntings or unknown activity.
We had a house where things actually flew off the desk or fireplace mantel, not fell, but flew across the room and it would do it, with us there, and something would set off our motion detectors in the dinning room where the desk was keep. We would smell a pipe smoking smell at a certain time on some days.

What has been the outcome of your situation?

Aavadore, how bizarre! I live in Orillia, too, and I also have a ghost (or something) that turns my bathroom water on. It usually happens first thing in the morning, and often wakes me up, although it has also happened late at night. Although the water thing is creepy, out house is very comfortable and welcoming. Many people who have visited have said that they felt it was haunted (one bedroom in particular) but that it wasn't a frightening presence. I'm not sure what to think, but it's fascinating that there's another ghost, in the same little city, that likes to play with the water taps!

The best way to tell what type of entity you have is the way it behaves. Earthbound souls are cold and smell of rotting food or sulphur. Souls from heaven are warm to hot and often give of scents that you would associate with them like perfume, cigar smoke etc.

If your pregnant, sage is not a good thing to use.

I used to live on Nottawasaga Street in Orillia and also in Warminster. I experienced the same tap turning spirit in my home on Nottawasaga. I've always been sensitive and was very aware that it was a child who was doing this. I eventually moved and from what I know, the new tenants haven't experienced anything. It seems to be a pattern in this town... Orillia does have it's known hauntings. The Opera House is one of the more well know ones. There's a shop on Coldwater road that sells bedding which is haunted and has been investigated. St. Columbkille's Parish out on hwy 12 is supposedly haunted. The Stephen Leacock home. One experience I had as a child that still creeps me out to this day. On the way to coldwater on hwy 12 there's a farmhouse at the train bridge. I was probably around 10 years old and slept there and I head someone running up and down the stairs all night. And extreme temperature changes. In the pitch black of night I could feel someone breathing in my face. To this day it still raises the hair on the back of my neck. There are a lot of wayward spirits in the Orillia and surrounding area. It's a town with a lot of history

No you are not crazy, I had some of my own with the unknown. I do believe ion the unknown, I lived in a house where you could hear some one walking up and down the attic steps and would lay in my bed at night and watch the attic door slowly open and close, I also had an experince where I was pregnant to and one night something kept touching my butt so I got up and went to go up to bed and on the 4th step something litterrly grabbed my arm, I use to watch the lights go on and off by them self to then I found out in both incidents I lived in 2 house where people have killed themselves in the house, on the steps where I was grabbed by my arm, a man had hung himself and the other house a docter murdered his wife in the attic, they say when death takes place and it was an unsettled death they are not at peace, rem. This the dead can not harm you no matter what you hear , see or smell just live your life and if it gets to bad I would move, but burn some sage and just be a friend to the unknown they won't hurt you.also maybe your preist can come to your home and pray and bring peace to your home, may god be with you and good luck.

Hello Avaadore. I find it saddening that so many would advise you to accept whatever presence you feel in your home. If there were a complete stranger in your home whether he hurt you or not would you still allow him to stay? Nor would burning sage, incense, or even a candle stick help protect you or frighten off an intruder, right? These things are rituals taken from different peoples religions. I also, find it interesting that someone has decided for everyone what smells go with what type of spirit you are dealing with.
What I can tell you is that there are such things as spirits. Both angelic and demonic. And I assure you that there are no human spirits just “floating” around us. That was something made up to eliminate the truth about heaven and hell. If our after life consisted of haunting this earth then what would be the point of our lives? Also, I assure you that no one “slips through the cracks” without God's knowing. Upon death you are instantly brought into the Lords presence. But since we're both still alive, if there is something bothering you in your home we can put an end to that.
As I have posted before, I am not a religious person, but I am a lover of Jesus and have learned along my long road that I have been given the authority over even the worst of spirits. Back in the mid.80's my wife and I moved into a house a young lady had died in.The cause
Of her death was domestic abuse we found that later.But the water in our bathroom would come on by itself and we would find things from our fridg. Laying in the livingroom floor.
We ask our landlady if anyone had died there but she said no.Our nabor told us the truth

I live in fellowship towers. (in orillia) and have for almost all of my life, and I swear these apartments are haunted.

Well I know that whole area around Nottawasaga Street is haunted including mount slaven school I know this because I have a friend who worked as a night custodain at mount slaven and IT IS LOADED WITH THEM my frind has seen 2 full aperitions and a year back I think I have a bad sense of time but a news paper in town did a report on the fact that the whole area is built on a native burial ground so that is why your home might be havnted if it is near Nottawasaga Street :)

Probbly the orillia today office youmight be able to ask them to find the atrtical that you are looking for but tell thim it is for a historical project or something like that they will try and help u I think

Hi there. I am from Orillia too but live out in Calgary now and work as a psychic. I wanted to address Avadore... Orillia itself has a great deal of psychic activity, as I remember growing up. But when one is a sensitive, as you are, it can be even more interesting. You need not worry about the cigarette smell, at this point, as I suspect you have a friendly spirit with you. The name Gord comes to mind and he comes in visitation. He is of slight build and not well... coughs a lot. The prescne I feel is one who passed in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Although if you are living in one of Orillia's beautiful old homes, it wouldn't hurt to get the wiring checked.

Water turning on and off is a common way spirit gets our attention. Once again, this can also happen if washers are loose in the mechanism. Only you know will know the difference.

I sense that you are as sensitive and have some abilities yourself. You might want to try to find out some of the history of families who lived there before you.

Above all, please be aware that this is not an angry spirit and your family is safe.

Well when io use to live in barrie, my dad owned a small restaurant down town. It was named toppers. My mom was stitting down at a table around 7:30 and she just happened to look over at the stairs , and she saw a head floating through the air. That city is definitely full of paranormal activity. You can feeli it. Also wheni was 6 I went to the stephen leachoc home with my mom. I remember the whole time I was holding onto my mom, I felt so terrified. The only room that felt safe was the library wher I can remember was very large with allot of windows. But the stairs and one bedroom felt so evil. Especially near o trunk that was by a bed. . Orrillia was my first expirience of anything. Then I started seeing things in my parrents house in barrie. Like dogs. And my dad saw a man sitting on a wicker chair in my baby sisters room. The reason my dad went into the room was because my sister was screamin. But we live in alberta now. And I ve expirienced a fair share of things I can't figure out or even explain with out looking crazy.

I would look into having someone come and do a blessing on your place.Also, if they are constantly around, they are most likely an earthbound spirit. Do you feel nervous around it, or do you get any negative thoughts or feelings around it? It could be that this spirit needs to be sent to the light so they can cross over where they belong. If you do have someone do a blessing and that doesn't work, I would look into paranormal investigators in your area, and see what they charge to do a small investigation, and I am sure they could send them to the light. If you don't have a feeling of "doom" when its around, I would be more on the side of it just being an earth bound spirit that is "stuck" or just has some attachment to your place.

I have had similar things happen in my apartment of 5 years not in the very beginning but it seems like a 2yrs. After I have had the airconditioner turn on and a toy run by batteries play by it self at night 2 times but the most disturbing was the bathroom scale I would always find it move from one side to the other as if some would move it with the foot turned sideways it really freaked me out t hen someone suggested to move the scale out of the bath room of which I did.a t this point my cat is always looking at something I try not to pay it no mind my cat will be sitting with me and all of a sudden look up as if there were something over my shoulder. So that is my story I figure as long as it is not harming me...

I also lived in an apartment house which I could hear foot coming up the stairs at night I would think it was my son coming home late. But it was no one then one day my 2yrs old grandaughter at the time was very frighthed while standing in the hallway.. I have seen things out of the corner of my eye. I was told to burn certain insence frankensence & mere I did that but sometime something's don't want to leave..

You have spirits in your apartment. That is what the problem is. You need to have someone that deals in removing them and then providing protection around you and your home so they can not return. Ghostgone.com has a good site that explains what is happening and they are in Canada as well

You people are going way to far into extremes. There are much more simpliar ways to handle this. Did you ever think that maybe they still think that this is their place? Have you even bothered to try and communicate with it. Ghosts are not bad. They are just lost and confused. They are stuck in a world of uncertianty. If you just took the time to communicate with them. If there is no response and things are constantly increase of things missing or flying off the shelf. Or things start happen to show there is negativity. Do this. Salt barrier.
Go around the outer walls of your apartment. (Not out side-do this inside.) You want to do this with a lot of sea salt. The salt has a element that buffs the spirit out of the house. Burn this one Erb to warn off spirits and purify your apartment. Do this continuous for like a week. Look up online about warning off spirits and roaming spirits. Keep the salt barrier for a couple of months. And make sure you section off rooms at the doors. You will know what room this spirit likes to reside in. Burn the erb in that room a lot more. Do your studies. One of the best things to do. Try it.

I would call the Ghostbusters, or the lady from poltergeist. Just kidding. In my case I curse at the presence I feel is watching me. It makes me feel better and strength seems to scare the scarers. Good luck!

If you're christian you can get rid of it by telling it to go in Christ's name. Pray over the apartment and ask God to close of any doors that would allow anything in your apartment. If you're not, then ask someone who is christian.

Hi there sweety if you are pregnant don't burn sage, try burning something like sweet grass or buy dragon's blood incense sticks and burn those. The best thing I can suggest here is to go to your church or a church near you and ask someone to come bless your home and if you feel threatened the best thing to do is to be firm, tell the spirit quite firmly, "This is my home now and you don't belong here I want you to leave." and then command it in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit to leave. If this does not work... MOVE.

This tends to happen when your living in an old area and the houses or apartments are really old. You might have to check the history of your home, to see if there was any murders or if a death has occurred in your home. If you feel like your unwanted by the identity, then I suggested you contact a local physic or a local church and get your house blessed. (if that does not help you can try to see if your local church can perform a house exorcism) That will get rid of the spirit. If your feeling unsafe I suggest you resolve this quickly because it may get worse, and you or anyone in the house will get hurt. Hopes this helps. Good luck

The same thing happens in mine and my fiance's apartment. You'd think because it's an apartment things would be easy to explain. And I won't lie, I thought I was crazy too when I first started hearing things. I was always checking for a rational explanation. Until I decided to leave an audio recording device in one of the bedrooms and the voices and sounds were right in the room with it. No, you're not crazy it may feel that way but if your taps are anything like ours they're tight and you have to physically turn them to get them to run the water. I literally sat in the bathroom for an HOUR watching the facet to see if it would turn on again and a few days later it happened again.

Burning sage isn't the best idea if you're pregnant. The first thing I would try if you don't want it there is to tell it 'okay, you've had your fun, now it's time to stop.' Most of the time just saying that out loud will work. You'd be surprised how many people I've told that to and it worked. It's not a 100% guarantee that it'll work but a lot of the time it does.
