When I was about 8 years old I had a very freaky thing happen to me; my family and I used to live in a old victorian style house that was pretty creepy at night. I used to use this huge stuff dog as a pillow, it was flattened out and everything from where I had always laid on it. Anyway, one night something jerked the dog out from under my head and it went tumbling across my bed length wise and landed on the floor. I was so scared that I just froze. As I was laying there frozen I felt something walking on my bed, it felt like my cat so I reached down to pet it for comfort but she was not their and it felt like something was still standing on my bed. At that point I jumped up and raced into my parents room who, of course, told me it was probably the cat. To this day, I know it wasn't my cat... something yanked that stuffed dog out from under my head!

I had an experience as a child. I was probably 8 and one night I was lying in my bed asleep when I was awoken by the sound of the wood flooring in my room creaking. Now we didn't have pets and there is a bookshelf full of books that I face when lying in bed. So I had my eyes closed listening to the flooring creak and then it stopped. I opened my eyes and at the end of my bed were two glowing red eyes. I was petrified.

After about 5 or 6 seconds I put my head under the covers and hoping it would go away. Eventually I fell asleep again. The next day I told my parents, who told me I was dreaming, but I knew better. I check the bookshelf to see if anything would cause two read glowing eyes, there was nothing and I never experienced it again.

Years later when I was 18 I was reading the paper one morning and an interesting article came up on "Monsters of Jacksonville, Fl". The spooky thing was as I was reading I came across one of the supposed things that lurk Jacksonville, which was a creature called "red eyes." I couldn't believe my eyes. Apparently there had been sightings all over Jacksonville since the 1800's. I was amazed.

On a side note, my mother later confessed to me that the house where we used to live (where I had my experience) she said she never quite felt comfortable there and that she always had an eerie feeling. I too shared her sentiment as there was something unnerving about the house.

Well, it'll never translate into the real fear on the page...

Lived in an old house built around 1900s... grandparents home, I lived there with my mom. Nice home but it had a half finished basement with a crawl space in the other section that you could get to from the basement.

I had a lot of good memories in that house, and even playing in the basement, but I didn't like to be down there at night. I started having a dream about going into the crawl space which became a tunnel of sorts and soon itd become tense and as if something were after me.

Then one night I woke up after hearing a noise in the basement, which was right over my room. We had a bar over the outside door so there was no way anyone could be in there. I left my bedroom, went through the kitchen and stood by the back door that opened to the stairs down. Thought I heard a thump again. Reached for the doorknob and stopped.

I just felt like there was evil behind that door. I couldn't open it.

Now, how a crappy old door with not even a deadbolt locked could keep "evil" from coming into the kitchen, I don't know. I just know something chilled me that night and after that I never, ever liked going into the basement at night.

My wife made me agree, when we were looking for houses, that the other spouse would not get mad or argue if a great home was rejected for the "creepy feeling" factor. Shed experienced a similar sensation.

On her side, she woke one night, after sleeping alone in the house, naked in her bed, with her bedroom window wide open. It wasn't that way when she went to bed. She borrowed a gun for a month.

Ok, here's my freaky story. When I was about 13 me, my mom and my sister moved into the upper unit of a duplex. My mom used to fall asleep on the couch at night before getting up and going to bed. One morning she told my sister and I that if we ever find her dead on the couch in the morning that it was "the man" that got her and that she would be dead from a heart attack. Obviously freaked out we asked her to explain. She said that when she would fall asleep on the couch she would wake up suddenly just freezing. As she would fumble around for more blankets, at the other end of the living room standing outside one of the bedroom doors would be the shadow of a man standing there. As she would blink her eyes and lean in to see who it was he would lean forward and crouch down looking back at her. He would then start slow but start to run at her. Right when he would almost get to her she would scream and he would disappear. We laughed at her and joked about it for months but never thought anything more of it. Years later I moved out and was living with my fiancée. The day of the wedding had arrived and the day before my mother suggested that I spend the night at her house as to keep up the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride the day of the wedding. We went to the rehearsal dinner and all that good stuff and headed back to my moms house. My step sister was also staying there that night. Since my mother and father no longer shared a bedroom, she had her room, my dad had his and my step sister had hers, therefore I had to sleep on the couch. After I finally cleared my head of all the wedding thoughts I fell asleep. After several hours I awoke shivering uncontrollably. As I was reaching for more blankets and trying to snuggle in and warm myself, I noticed a figure standing outside my step sisters bedroom at the other end of the living room. As I laid there I just watched him, thinking it was my dad and that he had maybe heard my step sister calling for him. As I tried to focus my eyes on him I became curious to exactly what it was he was doing. All of a sudden he turned towards me and leaned forward looking directly back at me as if to show me that he saw me looking at him. I was exhausted and just thought OK that was weird dad, closed my eyes and went back to sleep. The next morning over breakfast I asked my dad what it was he was doing last night. He surprisingly said, what do you mean. I explained that I saw him standing in front of my step sisters door. He said he didn't get out of bed for anything. All of a sudden my mothers face turned white and she looked at me and said... "that was him!! You saw him!! I was so freaked out! Funny thing is I have since bought the house and haven't ever seen him again. I told my mother, maybe he followed you to your new house!! LOL

Well, once you're a parent it all seems like nothing.

Having a child throw up all liquids for three days or running a 103 temp all night is about as awful as any dumb mental fabrication.

Or when after my wife had her first child as a single mom. Three days after she was at home and started bleeding. Almost bled to death and all she could think of was while she was losing blood on the way to the hospital was "i can't die. i have a new baby"... how's that for a downer moment.

But she didn't die so happy ending. Cheers to all, ill break out the beer.

Oh crap. No beer in the fridge. Now that's scary.

Scariest thing - - - When I was 18 and off to college. Freshmen Orientation. There was a campfire/picnic in between the main administration building and the Priory (which housed the library). The Sophomores were giving us newbies the dos and dont's and then someone said, "beware of the snakes." Had already been on campus three days and no snake sightings. So my two roommates stood up and were yelling, "here snake, snake" and I looked behind and saw a pile of curled up rattlers in a culvert. I don't know how many, never stopped to count. Lol. There was a mass exodus from the campfire. I called my parents and told them in no uncertain terms that I was coming home. HA HA.. My parents said tough luck.

The college had been built on prime snake country and we would often find rattlers in the dorms, in the classroom, on the walk paths, anywhere. I hated that place.

My scariest? This past month; I've been having dreams of "the dead" screaming for me to help them, but I don't know how. So, they kill me. &Each time that happens, I'd wake up, feeling the pain, I would've felt, if the dreams were real.

On July 4th, I took a "mirror picture" and a girl appeared in it.

Since then I go to sleep with my lamp on, my closets shut. About 15 minutes pass, the closet is cracked open, and my lamp is turned off. I can be awake, while it happened. I witnessed it 4 times. So now, my older brother comes into my room to wait for me to sleep, then he unplugs the lamp on his way out.

Well when I was 16 I was at home by myself one morning after my parents went to work. (it was summer). We lived in the country with the only neighbors being my grandparents and aunt and uncle. (that's Wisconsin for ya)! Anyway, I was in my room and had just woken up, and heard someone walking downstairs. It was clear walking and I heard them clear their throat a couple times, so someone was definitely down there! I had no where to go because my window was really high. I sat in my room for about a half hour just crying to myself and thinking of what to do. I could sneak into my parents room and climb out the window which led to a roof, but the wood stairs would be too loud in our hundred year old house. So after a while I heard nothing and grabbed my only weapon - a tennis racket and went downstairs shaking so rapidly I can still feel it. I had always told my parents to lock the doors after they left, but my dad forgot all the time! I searched the house shaking to death, and found no one, but the front door was unlocked. After another hour I had loosened up and wasn't so scared anymore. I remember exactly what I was doing- I was cleaning the counters after spilling soda on it, when it sounded like someone dropped a huge television upstairs. I've never ran so fast, but I ran out of the house and went to the only place I'd be safe - my car. I sat in my car, doors locked, staring at the front doors waiting for someone to come out, and when they did, I'd turn on the car and leave! (I could have just left, but I figured I'd be safe so I stayed to see if anything was going on) I looked up into my brother's room window to see the scaries thing I've seen in my WHOLE LIFE! A man in a long sleeved white shirt was just standing there, in the window, just looking down, looking at me. He didn't move. I was just about to leave when I thought "where will i go?" I sat in the car until my dad came home at 4:00. He laughed at me for wasting my whole day. He searched the house. No one was there. I searched for something that could have made the noise upstairs. Nothing had moved.

I was staying at a friend's house about 6 years ago. He mother lived in a Brownstone in Brooklyn and my friend's room was the bottom floor of the Brownstone. I always had a very uneasy feeling in her mothers house, something just felt weird especially in my friends room.

One night I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and as I sat up there was a full body apparition of a woman in period clothes standing at one of the walls. She was pulling something off the wall (almost as if she was pulling down books or something). I just sat there unable to move or make any noises for what felt like forever. I then watched the apparition just sort of move on. It was so creepy I couldn't leave my bed or fall back asleep for the rest of the night.

The next morning I mentioned something to my friend and she goes "oh yeah here, I didn't want to tell her in case it freaked you out". I told her too late.

My apologies if you've already addressed this but have you walked through your house with a cross and a candle and told the spirits that they are dead and to go to God? I swear it helps.

When I first moved into my apartment we had a man who would stand at the foot of my roommates bed and stare at her and a little girl who would run throughout our apartment and knock things over. I smudged sage then light a candle and made the sign of the cross in every room and said go to God and they all went away.

    Porcelain doll story-
I was like 11 and my aunt had brought me back a porcelain doll from Chile and I loved it... it was sooooo beautiful and I lvoed it more then the other 2 that I had at the time. Well, one night, I couldn't sleep and I just stared at my doll trying to fall asleep... But I didn't because as I started to drift off, it moved it's head to teh side... I screamed SO LOUD for my mom that I might have woke my neighbours.... scariest thing of my life... I threw it out a year after that. It scared me far too much.:(

The scariest thing: when I was four, my brother and sister and I were playing hide and seek. We always played until the player who was "it" had found the others. My Dad was in the military and had a duffle bag left on my parents bedroom floor. I crawled into it and pulled the flaps up so it just looked like a duffle bag. My sister was "it" and had found my older brother. While searching for me, I heard them going past me a couple of times. I tried to contain myself but let out a snicker anyway. They found me but pretended they didn't. Acting coy they said oh, well. We can't find him. Let's just lock up Dad's bag and go outside. They put the padlock on the bag hasp and I was trapped, crunched up in that bag until my Dad got home later that night (he had just left for work on his Coast Guard ship-no phone at all). I screamed and kicked but couldn't get out. I know I passed out a couple times before I got out. And to this day, I'm extremely claustaphobic and hate dufflebags!:(

OMGSH! That's awful... your brother & sister must've gotten into BIG trouble when your dad found you.
And yeahh... I never really feared dolls until that horrible night. And everyone is surprised that Barbies never scared me after that. I simply responded with "All I would have to do is call her fat and she would run to the nearest bathroom and make herself throw up".:D:D

My wife had saved a Chatty Cathy doll I didn't know about. One day I was looking for clean change of clothes for the baby. The clothes was in the cabinet above her closet. I slid the door to the side and the doll fell out onto me. I totally wigged! (the doll blinks it's eyes! )
