I guess the new testament church is the one without christ since at christs birth it was one of the gifts offered to him.
It was not burned for Him. The three gifts were important in pointing to different aspects of His future. The incense was noting His divinity... and magi that gave the gifts weren't necessarily godly people.
Second paragraph in... "We do not know exactly when the use of incense was introduced into our Mass or other liturgical rites. At the time of the early Church, the Jews continued to use incense in their own Temple rituals, so it would be safe to conclude that the Christians would have adapted its usage for their own rituals."
The Jews along with modern Catholics are STEEPED in tradition. This is not necessary NOR is it taught in the New Testament. Just because some priest says to do something, does not mean it's authoritative.
Ghost_lady, burn some sage. Let us know how it goes down.
Listen... I'm done arguing about this. I don't want to get into religion. At least not on THIS thread. We are taking away from the OP, and that's unfair for her.
If anybody wants to discuss this regarding religion, then perhaps you/we should start a new thread.
All I said was for the OP to try burning sage. I didn't think that there would be so much tension between all of the members.
This is becoming quite redundant... if you know what I mean.
Actually, Enigma, even though I disagreed with you, I WAS trying to stand up for you freedom to give whatever advice you see fit. I was trying to get things back to the OP with my last comment. It wasn't meant to be satirical. I was trying to bring things away from the "religion discussion" back to it's origin.
