    Help?
I am doing a career questioner for my class..

What are the major duties and responsibilities

What is the outlook for employment in this career

    Level of education required

Where did you get your degree

What do you like most about your career

What do you like least about your career

Any special skills required for their career

    Any special physical demands?

What is the opportunity for advancement in this field of work

How many people do you work with

Any special material, equipment, tools, machinery, etc. that you know you have to use

What personal qualities does a person need for this career

How many hours a week do you work

If you were choosing a career field at this point would you choose this career? Why or why not?

Do you have an email that you can be reached at?

No way that anyone on this site will give you an email where you can reach them. It's against site rules to solicit off site contact.

I have to ask, why are you asking this online? Why not go to a hospital, doctors office, or talk to your professor about contacting someone that you can talk to face to face that's working in this field.

The internet is a very unrealistic way to go about this. It's too easy for people to lie on the internet. So you could get answers to all these questions, only to find out that the person that provided those answers is not an OBGYN, but a garbage man.

Not a great way to go about this. The people that will be reviewing this will check to see that you got answers from a legitimate source.

Well I didn't know, there isn't any where I live. This is my first time on this website.

So you haven't even applied to go to premed, yet you're working on getting into med school?

Worry about premed first. If you do well there then worry about getting into med school. It's tough competition. Very tough. I know some of the brightest students that graduated premed, and they had a very hard time getting into med school. Of those students only a small percentage made it the first year of med school. Most failed and were forced to leave.

Work hard in high school, then meet the requirements needed to get into premed, then go from there. Right now you're trying to invent the wheel when you don't even know it's round. You're going backwards, not forwards.

Who told you that you have to interview OBGYN's working in the field? What did that person tell you you need, and what was the purpose for it?

    Good question.

Is this for an essay, or is this to get into premed?

I interview a career I want to be to find out more information for a career pathway, and the classes I need to take. My teacher required us to interview someone, and she said we can go online. We don't have to get an email. It's an option.

So the school you go to told you to ask theses question of an OBGYN, knowing that there's no one in your area that does this sort of work? WTH? That makes no sense.

That would be like someone asking my kids to do an in depth study, visual and interactive, of hippos, knowing that there are no hippos where we live. How?

Do they expect you to go to the internet, an unreliable source, to answer these questions? If not, then how did they expect you to do this assignment since you stated that no one in your areas can give you the answers this assignment requires.

This is insane. Are you telling me that schools expect students to go online, ask complete strangers to answer questions. The school expects those students to give a complete stranger their email address, when there's no way to know who these strangers are?

I really need to talk to your teachers. This is insane!

Many school districts are back in session in CA. We're back and our local high schools are. Have you tried interviewing your own Dr.

For an OB/GYN the list is really too long to mention here.

The outlook is great. With many women having babies as well as the increased risk of cancer, coupled with yearly physical exams. This question is too broad to answer specifically.

Staying up for hours on end to insure patient satisfaction as well as patient safety. Do you have any idea how hard it is to stay awake for 24+ hours and still make rational decisions?

Plenty, it's just how much you want to put into it and which field you want to specialize in. Obstetrics can branch out in many different areas as can Gynecology.

I don't see how that matters. It depends if you are working in a rural area or an urban area.

My kids don't start until September 4, but I'm not in the US.

Ah, many in Illinois start next week, and Chicago PS after Labor Day.

This book is put out by the federal government every two years, and the entry is general for physicians, but it overlaps what J_9 said --

Physicians and Surgeons : Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Really? It must vary by district, don't know how it works there. But I have two friends in Illinois, and a few in Chicago, all of their kids are already back in school. Strange for me, since mine don't go back until September 4, but I'm in Canada.

The Chicago Teachers Union is considering a strike. The CPS web site says first day of school is September 4th. We all eagerly waiting to see what happens.
