Does anyone have an opinion the AHRC.Com or CCJ orgs
We are having the same disclosure issues with respect to gaining access to HOA documents in Maryland. The state legislators keep going around the circle with various ways of trying to legislate this, but it seems the business lobby for community association managers is pretty strong.
In one of our state-wide advocacy groups, the Maryland Homeowners Association (MHA), which is suppose to be lobbying on behalf of consumers for better protections and transparency, the org President Jeanne ketley was trying to promote a bill to create a state Ombudsman to handle hoa complaints and to assist with mediation, but no real power to enforce or regulate in any meaningful way.
While some of the MHA membership was opposed to the Ombudsman bill claiming the org should not give its seal of approval unless the bill carried substanial protections, Ketley was trying to build consensus to support it. Although members fielded research that indicated states with Ombudsman laws have not fared well like FL, NV, CA, and NJ, ketley was not persuaded.
In fact she claimed that MHA would be wise not to associate with organizations like the Cyber Citizens for Justice (CCJ) or the AHRC.com. She insisted that state legislators would run from anyone associated with these and that would consequently hurt MHA chances of building a political relationship with legislators.
The MHA president and 1st Vice President are self-proclaimed members of the Community Association Institute which is a trade organization for community association managers. That seems pretty ironic for those that would call themselves advocates for the consumer.

This is not the appropriate forum to discuss your problems with Ms. Ketley. That is a subject for a dicussion board and I am asking that this be moved.

In the event it is not a matter for AMHD, then it is a subject for a blog or message board.

Please do not misuse this site.
