I want that purse Starty. I'll arm wrestle you for it. ;)

Hi KBC. Just remember, you know what you're doing, you aren't there to make friends, just to work, finish and get paid. Be overly nice when they are around, maybe that will give them a kick in the butt. ;)

Ohhhh, I see how you work;)
K... no rants from me yet... not saying I wouldn't explode if I started... but CBW made a good point in one of her posts, and I am going to be thankful for the things that come my way and stop griping about things... (whether it is to myself or not) SO... Go with your bad self and take advantage of this great job you have, cause it is going to put money in your pocket... what happened to the furniture?

KBC, I make furniture too. My specialty is tables, especially end tables and coffee tables. But if it's wood I can make it, providing I have the tools for the job. :)

I'd love to see your work.

I'm self taught, my shop is my garage, but I've been picking up tools whenever I have some extra money. Last year I got a lathe, I absolutely love it! I also got a really nice planer, that sure makes life a bit easier.

I like working with tile a lot, and I've picked up a few very nice woods to work with. My personal favorite is maple, even though it's a pain in the butt to sand smooth.

Maybe I'll post a few pics too, if you promise not to laugh. ;)

Laugh? At a fellow entrepreneur? Are you kidding,, I'd just as soon gag my dog with a fork...

Maple, while nice when wet for turning on the lathe, is such a hard wood to work when dry,I had a piece of old bowling alley (all maple and compressed by the many years of bowling leagues, :) )and made it into a large chopping block.Resurfacing it took just about forever.

    Got to go,barn roof calling.

    Be back later,

    Ken

Lets see if this pic loaded .

KBC, I love that set. If I owned a hotel with inside pool, you'd be making at least a dozen with foot-stools to go with it. I'd probably paint the backs in rainbow colors and the rest in burnt orange too. This is pure talent!

I love to work with soap-stone and have a few tools collected, but have no place to work in anymore. It was such fun to make something out of blocks that looked like jade, marble and even opal. The products I made have been distributed among family and friends as gifts and look super when periodically treated with sewing machine oil. I even made a few sets of ear-rings out of the jade and opal pieces which I sold along with Christmas window-color pictures.

Starby, I just love that purse. Right now, I use a black diaper bag because there is so much I have to take along, i.e. cameras, bottle of water, and more. Nobody has noticed that it is not a 'real' purse. The only thing I don't include with it is the changing mat and bottle warmer - don't need them anymore.

I was going to rant a bit here, but after seeing that furniture and purse, decided to save the rant for later.

OK we need to start a swap meet group,so we can barter for all the things we can make.

I can supervise and take a percentage of the proceeds(for my knee surgery)

UMMM, where might those alty projects be, now let me see??

I would very much like to critique your work... pressure building yet?? I hope not, I am not very judgmental(except where really bad information is concerned... mental health especially,OK,water under the bridge)

I'm a floral designer and wedding consultant, Alty's a woodworker and wonderful artist, and author, Rebby is a pencil and paper artist, (also a great painter), Starty is a master Baker, Judy could be our legal consultant, Chery is a master of all things, hmmm, I'm forgetting many here. We sure have some talented jewels around here. Who wants to trade what for what? LOL!

    People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
But when the darkness sets in,
Their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
    ~Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

This is the first time I noted this sigy.

Are you a big follower of her work?

I write a lot about her 5 stages of grief myself.
  • Nov 18, 2008, 07:14 PM
    HistorianChick

Having experienced her five stages of grief, I enjoy her work from a personal perspective.

I adore that little poem because it is so true... its me. I love it when I find small pieces of literature that describe a piece of who I am.

When people ask me to tell them something about me, my answer is always "I'm a mosaic." Then I quote them this little poem. Mosaics are the most beautiful pieces of art and architecture - but what are they? Broken pieces of something that was once whole... but they are more beautiful because they've been broken...

... wow... didn't expect to go there tonight...

    ... sigh... holidays stink. :)

    Thank you. :)

Yup, router, and it wasn't fun, but so worth it, back then I didn't have a router table, so I just used a piece of wood and a lot of clamps. I joined them with dowling. I didn't want to nail them or screw them together. I did screw the base that holds up the tile though, it's a heavy tile, I wanted it to be sturdy.

Got to love oak. Those pieces where leftovers from when we did our ledging in the basement. :)

No can do, that table is gone, I gave it away as a birthday present to my friend for her 40th birthday two years ago.

The legs are dowled to the top of the table and then the base for the tile is screwed into the legs, just to make it more sturdy. I usually build a shelf underneath, for stability and looks.

I'll take more pictures soon and post them. I usually make around 10 of one type of table, different woods, different stains, different laquers, then I start a new design.

I love using tile. A few years back a friends brother worked for a demolition company. They were demolishing a tile company. He called us and asked if we'd like to come remove the tile from the show room, whatever we removed would be ours. We spent 4 days there, ended up with some really nice tile. The tile was so easy to remove, they only attached it with glue because they redid the showroom a lot and wanted the tile to be easy to remove. I have slate, granite, you name it. I could probably make around 10,000 tables, or tile my entire house, including the walls. ;)
