I haven't read the other posts, so I'll just respond to the original question.
Ben, I've been forewarned about two cataclysmic, earth shattering events. At least they were earth shattering to me. I knew both my parents were going to die before they died. Both times I sat by, unable to do anything, and just watched them fade away, took care of them, held them, watched them die. I don't recommend it.
At the end, I hate to say it, feel guilt about it, I actually thought that the waiting was the worst part, I actually wished that they'd hurry and die already, because each day was torture, each day we sat there waiting for the inevitable to happen. We didn't live during that time, we just waited.
Most people think that if they knew the world was ending, they'd go out and do the things they've always wanted to do. They'd tell their loved ones that they love them, spend time with their family, go to Hawaii, whatever is on their list of important things to do.
My questions is this. Why are you waiting? What are you waiting for? Does the world have to end in order for you to live?
Each day I have with my kids, my husband, my loved ones, is a gift. Each day is special. I may not be able to afford to pack up our bags and go to Hawaii, but everything that's important to me is being done every day. I would have no regrets if the world ended tomorrow.
So no, I wouldn't want to know about it. I wouldn't want to spend each day worrying about something I can't change. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing, living each moment, loving each moment, and never putting off what is important to me.
Face it, a plane could land on you tomorrow. Every day is a gift. I suggest no one waits to open it.

In many areas we cannot even voice an opinion because of political correctness, which also took away our right to free speech. Take terrorism that was conveniently invented to take away even more of our rights, and some may not accept this or believe it but 911 and 7/7 were not terrorist acts its been proven there were bombs going off in the twin towers, and both buildings fell in same manner as would planned demolitions. The evidence is out there. Movie named Loose Change will explain this to anyone who thinks it was terrorists. The war in Iraq was about the oil, no more than that no wmd were found and won't be. In the UK the Holocaust has been removed from school curriculum's, why because it offended the Muslims.
Our governments lie to us, they've always lied to us, there are powers unseen by most who control this world they control the wars and both sides are financed by the same backers. My intentions were not to portray my thoughts as being aimed at any one country, it is very much the same here in the UK.
Ive no idea of how people in the USA live so I would say if anything it is based upon how people in the UK are.
I am raising my children to be good kind and helpful to others, to be responsible for their actions and to accept they're going to need to live by rules of the land and to respect others for being entitled to their opinions and not judge others who may appear to be or have less than they do.
In this I believe I am being am positive parent.
As stated my beliefs or thoughts on 2012 are merely an opinion I reached after doing many years of research. I like everyone else have no real idea what will happen if anything in 2012, I merely gave my opinion to how I feel the world has become.
Again my children will and already do have a right to voice their opinions, and I do not inflinct my beliefs or opinions on anyone else.
If they differ to anothers that's fine we all have our own perceptions of reality and how we interpret same.
