I have watched a few Martha Stewart shows and wish so much that I can learn as much from the experts about designing anything and everything :)!

I loved these flower arrangements... I think it is amazing to be able to arrange flowers in a way that is so pleasing to the eye and creative designs, what hard work too.

Those arrangements are very creative. I have to thank you for saying it's hard work. I used to get so frustrated with people who would come into the shop and say,. oh you must love smelling these flowers all day, and playing around with them... I would like to become a florist... it's such easy money! Oh that used to burn my butt!

Anyone that would every say anything like that has obviously never spent a C'mas, Valentines Day, or Mothers Day etc. in a flower shop. It's crazy insane, and most times you work from 8am, until 3am, only to be back again at 8am. And actually, once you have worked in a shop for so long, you can't even smell the flowers anymore. I didn't like that part.

You should just try picking out a variety of flowers that you like, and get a vase or container that you think you could handle working with to start, and then just fool around with it. Think of other things the might be in your backyard, like twigs, or cuttings of leaves from trees etc. Just have fun with it! It doesn't have to be perfect, just do whatever looks right to you! :)

It is hard work, cannot even imagine working in a flower shop and having to come up with creative unique designs and then having to do them all.
I used to change my flower arrangements at home almost weekly, a long time ago.. :)Some looked good but some had to be redone a coupla times until it looked OK.:D.

It has been a while, but since you have brought up this topic of flower designing I am searching the net and would love to do some on my own.Hopefully sometime in the future...
I am also looking into clay flower making,it seems like such intricate work, but would love to try.

I used to do a lot of different crafts like fabric painting, cross stitching, rug hooking, and making cry baby dolls. (I don't know if you've seen them... they don't have faces, but they stand in the corner and look like a real life toddler) One thing that was really cool to do, and so easy, was to buy printed napkins with different designs, and I would just rip them into pieces, and get any kind of container, even just a tin can, and smeared the container with Elmers glue, and take the ripped pieces and over-lapped them. Actually it didn't even have to be a container, because I tried it on an ostrich egg one time too. It looked really cool, because the napkin had metallic colours.

My fave thing of all to do though, is to go out to the country with my gloves and clippers, and see what I can find on the country roads. I've found some pretty strange looking flowers and pods etc. Always have to sneak a bit of wheat from a farmers field too... shhhhh! ;)

As soon as you get the cattails, spray them with a super hold hairspray, or even a clear laquer if you have any. They'll last for ages and ages!

Everyone is probably going to go BOOOOOOOO! But I despise daisies (and carnations) Work in a flower shop that has FTD. We called them "paint by number" arrangements! They almost always had daisies and carns, and were soooooo boringggg! YUK! ;)

    Not really Starby,
I think there are different flowers one identify with while others don't. I don't like carnations that much, but I think daisies are so pretty especially the wild kind.

I love African lilies(I think they are called)http://www.liliumbreeding.nl/00081207.jpg
,but not too much a fan of red roses.I like roses but more other colours than red.

EDIT:::As for me I am looking at the single flower, but for you, maybe you are imagining a whole bouquet and what will look best together... maybe that makes a lot of difference in flower preference especially if you are about to design a bouquet.:)

Ohhh, my field of wild flowers would never do that justice. But, I don't care, I love it anyway! We have lots of daisies for now... next will be a pretty wild purple flower... the iris' are starting to fade right now! It goes in groups and I lve the change, every day looks different... every single day it looks different;)

I guess I shouldn't have said I despise the flower itself, what I couldn't stand is when we had to use daisies and carns and make a compact standard arrangement.

Those African Lilies were pretty. I don't care much for red roses either. My fave rose is the champagne rose. I adore lilies, especially Casablanca's... but not Tiger Lilies. (that's got more to do with the fact that I'm not a fan of orange) I like abstract and freestyle arrangements the best! They are the most fun to do. The exotic flowers are more my style. It does make a lot of difference to me. I can look at a single flower, but I'm always thinking of what I can put with it. It could even BE a single flower, but then I'm thinking of grasses, twigs, different greens, and so on... so yeah exactly! ;)

I totally understand Starby! That is great that you have an eye for flowers. Maybe from now on, I will take a little more time to make the arrangements and make them even better. I am the type to grab a bunch of flowers and stick them in the vase in a hurry!! I love doing that too. It makes me the happiest when My sons or daughter bring a single flower or even a whole big bunch of them (with the roots hanging on the bottom still) Heehee
Natural is my fave... but I like to look at other types of arrangements as well!
