Get an attorney and sue the heck out of them.. go to legal aid.. document dates, times, conversations and any rents you paid or did not pay.. either way, landlord wrong.. good luck and go to social services immediately to get help if you need it..

Judy... you are not going to believe this.. we call county rep this morning.. he said that she stated to him.. we have no lease.. and moved into this apt. under the pretense of painting. We did paint for them in exchange for security.. the entire first floor.. she has told the county we have no binding lease. We can't even get to the first page she gave us because it is locked out. We do have one copied at another office.. and we have e-mails stating from her that she will.. "drop by tonite to sign the lease"... other e-mails saying.. "you already have a copy".. etc... we are really scared now.. she is lying.. and the county says they are out of it.. its her word against ours.

Gather your proofs and take them to the county rep. Whether you have a lease or not, cutting off the electricity is illegal unless it was done by the county because of the fire hazard. You have grounds for a suit, but you will need to take the landlord to court.

Susanne, go to one of Judy's posts and left click on her name, three options will pop up. Choose the "Send a private message to JudyKae" option by left clicking. A screen will pop up that will allow you to send a message to Judy. If you want you can post all your info there, this is a private message between you and Judy, no one else can access it.

I wanted to answer you immediately and then I read backwards. The landlord cannot legally shut off your heat - although I know she has. Not surprised the County won't get into that end of things.

Thank God.. yes.. we called our county lawyer referral service.. she gave us a name and appointment with a Attorney tomorrow.. but it's going to cost $30.00 for half an hour consultation. We need a lawyer so badly.. and we are so broke.. we have to find new apt... down payment.. security.. and pay for legal help.. Are you sure I cannot get my e-mail address or something to you in another way?

I can only imagine what his fees are... and actually I don't think we need a lot of service... just someone to let her know we have a lawyer.. and to back off.. and have her follow legal avenues.. we are desperatley searching for a new place nearby... and hoping someone cuts us a break...
