Can drinking an energy drink before having an oral swab test cause a false positive
This test was sent to a lab and not one that was read on the spot. The results came back positive for methanphetamine and anphetamine as well as methadone. The only one that was in my system was methadone because I am on a maintenance program. I have been unable to provide a urine sample for the random testing because of a prolapse but they have been taking an oral swab test and this particular morning I drank an energy drink thinking with the extra cafeine it may help me to urinate for the regular test so when I was unable to provide a urine sample that morning they went on to take the oral swab again and the results came back positive for those drugs and I have absolutely not taken anything other than the methadone, so I am trying to find out what could possibly cause this.

I think* that energy drinks can cause false positives on some drug tests. There is a record of false positive for cocaine and seems to relate to taurine in the energy drinks.

Also false positives for amphetamines are common place at the screening level (immunoassay).

It is also possible that a specific ingredient of the energy drink cross-reacts with the methadone

What energy drink did you have? Better yet, here is a deal for you. You lookup, on line, the ingredients of the drink and post them here, then I will check for cross-reactive potential in relation to methadone or other substances.

    * I emphasize think because I'm not aware of any scientific studies in support. There are however increasing reports of false positives attributable to energy drinks.
