Grant, I really like this idea for relaxing you.
I think you need to try and learn how to relax, even at such a young age.
If you get a technique down that works for you, you will have it always to bring you a little peace.

As far as your throat and your stomach go, use the hot tea, it will soothe and help to thin down that mucous a little (if the mucous is still a problem) Instead of trying to swallow the mucous back try to spit it out.
Try to watch what you eat for a while, stay away from things that have tomatoes, chocolate, caffeine, acidic fruits, etc.
If you can manage to deal with helping your stomach and at the same time work on your stress level I think you will be much better off in the long run.

As far as the rest of your story goes, you have fallen into a whole pile of moms here.
We will listen and we will hear you.
My heart goes out to you and I hope you do well with all of this so keep the updates coming.

We're more than just a site, we've become family, and now you're a part of that family. Most of us have never met each other in person, we all met here, yet we care about each other, listen to each other, help each other. I could tell you wonderful stories about the people on this site and their generosity, their spirit.

You found the right site kiddo. :)

As I said before what really worries me is asll the air and acid whenever I drink eat or swallow. Can your stomach hurt from a lot of mucus and is it possible it could make you swallow gas and have acid. Because this mucus in my throat is constanly there and wont go away it is annoying and makes me worry and when I worry i feel light headed and feel terrible inside like I am falling apart but you guys have felt like this before so I feel good when I can talk to you and not feel trapped like I have no one to talk to and I am dieing

I started having panic attacks when I was five. They lasted until I was twenty. I remember laying in bed at night thinking about death and dying. Then I even thought I was dying. Oh yes. Just ask my parents. I have had all types of cancer, emphysema, HIV (I was a virgin when I thought I had that) tetanus, pulmonary embolisms, aneurysms, brain cancer, throat cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, heart disease... The list goes on and on. My mother paid the doctor's mortgage bill for all of the appointments I had. Seriously! I thought I had all of these at one point.

I know it may seem funny, and looking back on it, it was funny, however, at the time I was scared. I lost sleep over these things. My mind is and was powerful. The mind is a powerful thing. My attacks were so bad that I couldn't breathe or swallow. My heart would race.

Then one day I said to myself, "self, do you really want to live like this? I am fine! I will be fine!" Then I started to focus on other things. Painting, reading, enjoying my friends, family, school, or something simple as walking around my block.

I guess what made it easier was my mother reassuring me that I was OK.

Grant, we are here if you need us. I know you are scared, but you don't have to be. You will be OK. I know it seems easier said than done, but take it from a person who thought I had everything wrong with me, you WILL be fine. :)

Grant, I promise you that you are OK. I am a nurse and I have to tell you that if there were a problem, it would have gotten worse by now. Not stayed the same, but gotten WORSE.

Panic attacks are very real, AND very scary, but they can be controlled if you learn how to control them. What I used to do is go to my bedroom, lie down with some soft music playing and concentrate on my breathing. Try to relax each muscle in my body starting at the toes and slowly going up to my head. Heck, I still do this if I'm having a bad day.

What and How are you eating and drinking?
You can stay away from carbonated beverages, sodas and carbonated waters.
    Don't use a straw.
Chew your food well and eat slowly.
Take your time, if you eat in a rush you will swallow more air.

I am eating fine and like not that bad. When I eat I have to chew extra tobsallow it without feeling it tightly going down my throat. I think that's because it is bruised/a little swallon but I don't know because this happened last wendesday

What type of foods could give you acid and intigestion. Every time I eat or drink I burp and it taste like the food I ate earlier. Also is it possible so much mucus could cause acid and why am I getting so much darn nasty annoying mucus?

You might want to chew on 3-4 papaya tablets after you eat something. They are at Walgreen's or Walmart and in the vitamin section (no prescription). They taste good and help digest food and avoid gas/burping.

I have been stuff up with mucus so it is hard to breathe andmy throat still hurts from when I got hit in it if I moveit a certain way or try to make a certain sound or sometimes even just talk I sound like a broken record and my throat hurts. What do you guys think is wrong with me in your opinion and do you think I will be back to normal or will all of this including the problems I have been having with my throat since I got punchedin it be with me forever. Perhaps it's all coincidence that you may have gotten the flu around the same time you also got hit in the throat. It's been a week since this has all happened. I think you should go to the doctor. Not because I think that there is something wrong, but to put your mind ar ease. Your brain is creating more than there really is.

Go to your school nurse tomorrow and tell her all of the symptoms that you are having. Let her take a look see. Then have the nurse call your parents and DEMAND that they take you in to see the doctor.

I, along with everyone who answered yiu asked a series of questions regarding past events (panic attacks, worry) to see if thus is just your personality. I thought at first but you may be a hypochondriac, but now I am uncertain. You say rhat you didn't worry about things so much prior to getting hit. But you are extremely worried now.

So now I think it's time to have a doctor's checkup.

    Start with your nurse.

It makes me upset that after a week of complaining about this, your parents STILL dismiss it. Is your family insured?

Yes my family is insured. My dad is an accountent. Whomakes a lot of money. When I tell him to take me to the doctors he says you are fine. I told my nurse about all these things going on and she said that I will be fine and if it keeps up she will call my dad. She alao said that the problems I am having is no laughing matter, but this will probably not be life threating or nothing super serious, but then again there is Always this from WHAT IF in the back of my head. I just Worry about my health and how I want this to end and it feels like hell. I hope you guys do not think I am weird I amjust a concerned person that is confused and has parents most of the time. I wonder what is up with myself what do you think am I over exaggerating and are these extra problems from aniexty and worrying or is it a serious medical issue what do you think
  • Oct 10, 2012, 03:30 PM
    Wondergirl
It is probably a combination of things -- from the injury, maybe from stress and worry, even a reaction from your dad's ignoring symptoms and telling you that you are okay (and you know you aren't). I too think you should follow up with the school nurse and tell her you are not any better and want to see a doctor.

    Enigma1999
Are you sure you're only 14? Lol You seem very mature for your age to be so concerned. No, I, we, don't think you are weird for showing concern about your health.

I believe you are fine, but I am not there to see it. I am not you who is feeling it. If the nurse thinks you're fine, then I would believe her. Again though, I would stress to your mother that you are in pain and are very concerned.

Yes are I am sure I am 14, but a very big 14 year old I am 6'1" and weigh 190 pounds. I think some of this is from stess and other worrying problems

So I contacted one of my very good friends in Chicago who is a nurse and is married to a doctor. They both said that the mucus and other symptoms are totally unrelated. However, if the pain persists, you can have a neck X-ray, but they suggest taking ibuprofen first.

    I hope this helps.

    Grant,
I think you must be delightful young man and if I could, I would throw my arms around you right now and give you a large reassuring hug.
We have all asked questions and given suggestions to try and help you, I don't know if you have read each post thoroughly, but you haven't answered some of those questions.
I'm not getting on you for it, just saying that if you could give us some of that information we would be able to help you even more.
And rest assured that no one thinks you are weird for being concerned about yourself right now.
I think you should do just as Enigma and Wondergirl said and follow up with your school nurse, and a doctor visit is certainly valid, you need some peace of mind.
How is the acid problem? Still bothering you?

    grant13579
Yes sadly the acid problem is still bothering me, but not as much everything has seemed like it has gotten better just a little bit. I do look at all the posts by other people too. Thanks for doing that Enigma1999 and yes I have taken Advil, but my throat problem as of now is random pains and when I swallow I can feel food slide down my esophagus and sort of get stuck in a uncomfortable painful manner. Also thanks LadySam. Enigma1999 can you ask them about the other problems and tell them about what kind of situation I am in please. Also if you guys want any information about what is going on just ask me I am glad to talk about it so I am not so worried.

We are in Fall season now, and I saw you live in an Eastern sate, which is starting to have a change in temp there. The flu bug is starting to go around, therefore, you may have contracted something prior to getting hit. I did mention all of the symptoms that you are experiencing, and my friend feels very confident that none of that is related.

I would go to the nurse tomorrow, one last time, and explain that you are very concerned and that your parents WILL NOT take you to see the doctor and what can be done about that?
  • Oct 10, 2012, 05:11 PM
    LadySam
The acid problems are something you may have a little control over, and can, by the way, cause a funny "lumpy" feeling in your throat.
So let's work on trying things that may decrease the acid, OK?
When you feel like you're getting the indigestion do you take anything?
Have you noticed that the acid is worse with certain foods?
Are you eating just before you lie down at night?
Are you eating a lot of fried or fatty foods? (cheeseburgers, pizza, etc.)
Sorry, I know lots of questions, but we might can steer you clear of some of the classic things that cause indigestion if we know a little more about your habits
I know the acid is not the only problem, but stomach discomfort is real downer and can make you feel way worse than you should.

    According to them... no.

Which makes sense because, everything you are describing sounds like flu symptoms. Think about it... You are stuffed up which is causing a build up of mucus which is also causing post nasal drip, causing your throat to feel soar (on top of the pain from being hit). You are light headed because your equilibrium is off most likely because of the fact that you have built up mucus. The eyes, ears, and throat are all connected, and it seems that all of the above are showing symptoms. Now, the acid and gas are more than likely caused from all of the worry you have been experiencing. Stress causes stomach issues, such as gas, acid indigestion type feeling, and even sharper pains.

Again though, I just want to reiterate that I am not a doctor.

Speaking to your doctor will put your mind at ease.

I have not been eating that many fried foods, but before this I could eat a whole large pizza and a 2 foot chess steak otherwise I am eating OK now. I try not to eat before I sleep. Acid for me gets worse with pasta sauce of acidic acid which comes from certain foods such as apples certain juice. I have been eating pretzel rods, bread and butter, crackers, etc to absorb the acid. It is sort of helping let me just say since I have talked to you girls I have been feeling much better and confident and not as down,l but I am still having the problems I mention before which might just be nothing. Some days I feel better than others. I mean I still am having those problems and worrying but no were near as much as I worried before thanks to you girls. Thanks for the advice Enigma1999 even if I went to a doctor they would probably say the same things you girls are saying to me. So that's what I am thinking. Can you get chest pains all around your chest and throat are if you are stuffed up with mucus and it is hard to breathe because of the mucus well at least that is what I think.

It's good that you have figured out some of your trigger foods so that you can avoid them.
When my stomach acts up I drink lots of gatorade, the blue ones, sounds crazy, but for me they actually are a little soothing.
Ginger tea is also good for soothing the stomach, if you like hot tea, I think you will enjoy it.
I think I recall that you are taking Advil also, when you take it make sure you are taking it with food.
I still think you need to get to the doctor, you need to ease your mind and get back to being a 14 year old.
