    Desktop Keyboard not typing correctly
    Here’s one for you.
I have a 2 yr old HP running XPsp3 1mb memory, AMD 64x2. About a month ago, I started noticing that I was misspelling quite a lot In Office 2007 Word. It did not to effect excel or Inet. As time went along it started getting worse. Last week, the machine had been on about 2 days; almost every key I typed in Word would pop out an incorrect letter.

Testing … I would hit “A” repeatedly. It would be )1234567kanmyd…….something like this. Every key would do about the same. It has progressed to other programs and Inet. I feel it’s some type virus but I cannot find anything on with this type of symptom.
I’ve switched the keyboard from a pin type to a USB. Same thing.
I’ve gone into control panel and deleted the drivers. That did great…….. for about a day.
Same thing if I just reboot.
I’ve run my Zone Alarm several times and found no virus. I’ve searched the internet and have not found much help either.
I know software. I’ve built systems and replace every component by upgrades…so I’m not a novice.
Somebody suggested that I format and restart. That would be my Very last option as this is my work system and a lot is on it and I don’t need the down time.

Got any ideas other than take to a shop that will bust 80.00/hr and use the same tools I have??
FYI…….I typed this in word and made about 20 corrections doing so. How frustrating!!

Please clarify if it is a different keyboard or the same keyboard just connected via USB. Usually keyboard problems are due to faulty or dirty keyboards. Can you try the keyboard on another machine?

I don't believe any one product is sufficient anymore for detecting all the junk that is out there. Download and run Malwarebytes, use Trend-Micro's Housecall online scanner, and then Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware Free. Also try booting into safe mode or from a dos boot disk to isolate problem as a hardware issue or malware.

Try scanning with MalwareBytes just to make sure you don't have any malware (you probably don't). Click the blue button at the left and scan with the free version:

    Malwarebytes.org

Since you've tried a new keyboard, it may be that your keyboard input circuitry is toast. That is built into the Motherboard and requires a MoBo replacement. However, before coming to that conclusion, locate a free keyboard testing program and test it with that.

Let me google that for you

If you can run it from Safe Mode, all the better. In fact, try booting into safe mode and see if you have the same problem.
