Ah, I was on a two week long course without internet access! It was a nice break to be honest! Lol! Back at work now though! Boooo! Although, saying that I've got 2 weeks holiday starting on Thursday with V Festival this weekend! Woohooo!

My parent's weren't the richest when I was a kid, and I used to love what my Mum called 'Dippy Bread'... this involved frying bacon for a sandwich for my Dad then soaking up the fat and cooking oil on more bread and feeding it to me and my brother!

Now that may sound harsh, but it was LOVELY! Actually, I might have a crack at it this weekend!

Dippy bread for us is what id call eggy bread now hehehehehe weird isn't it how we all have different meanings for a name.

Yeah, when I've explained it to people before they've likened it to eggy bread... but that's with eggs and not bacon! Ha ha!

Fried Slice, but without the frying.

Do your bacon then soak up the fat with bread and fry it till golden brown.
Works best with thick cut white bread.

A friend of mine's ex girlfriend was a Muslim, when she went off to University she actually ate a bacon sandwich because she loved the smell so much! Lol!

One if my favorites is a philly cheese steak sandwich. Nice shaved steak with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, YUMMIE!!

Now, don't look at the wiki, that is a deplorable description.

2 fresh Italian sandwich rolls or Kaiser buns, split in half crosswise
1 white onion, thinly sliced
1/2 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 pound rib-eye steak, very very thinly shaved or sliced
1/3 pound thinly sliced white American cheese, or Provolone cheese
Italian pickled peppers, accompaniment

Do you have any idea of the fresh meat you can but and it's a dam site lot cheeper than tesco you can pay anything from ten to fifteen for a whole duck in tesco farmers market 7 pounds and none of that dam packaging those supermarkets like so much.

This is one of my most favorite sandwiches. If I make this for dinner my husband knows that I want something.

If you go to Philly for one be sure to order it right!!

Wholewheat bread with mustard sauce, sliced tomato, mashed avo , cucumber and cheese , yammy !

My all time favorite is nothing fancy: Bacon/Avocado/Lettuce on toasted white bread with mayo. I like Ranch Dressing on most other things.

Original Devonshire Sandwich

Cream Sauce:

* 3/4 stick butter, melted
* 1 cup flour
* 1/4 pound Cheddar cheese, grated
* 1 pint chicken broth
* 1 pint hot milk
* 1 teaspoon salt

For each sandwich:

* 1 slice good toast, crusts trimmed off
* 3 slices crisp bacon
* 5 thin slices cooked turkey breast
* Cream Sauce, recipe above
* Melted butter
* Parmesan cheese and paprika

To make the Cream Sauce: Melt 3/4 stick butter in deep pan and add flour, stirring constantly. Add chicken broth and then hot milk and salt, for 20 minutes, still stirring. Cool to lukewarm. Beat with wire whip until smooth before using. This makes enough sauce for 6 Devonshire sandwiches.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In each flat, individual oven-proof casserole dish, place 1 slice of toast and top with 3 slices bacon. Add 5 thin slices of cooked turkey breast. Cover completely with cream sauce. Sprinkle with a little melted butter, then with the combined Parmesan cheese and paprika. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
