How to find a location using a picture electronically?
Someone told me that you can trace back to the location a picture was taken by typing in the Ip address or something? Is this true? How can I do this?
THANKS! :)

Where does IP address come into play with a picture that was taken? Please clarify?

There was a report on some TV news show awhile back that pictures posted on Twitter can be traced to their location if the person used a smartphone to take the picture. That's because the smartphone broadcasts the GPS coordinates where the picture was taken and Twitter doesn't block that info. So it can be traced to the location of the picture by GPS coordinates, not IP address.

This to me is insane. People have no idea what dangers they present to themselves through the use of certain apps. I hope this feature is banned from use by minors.

If a smartphone was used to take the picture the GPS co-ordinates may have been saved to the file. If you find a picture you want to know where it was taken open the file location in windows explorer, right click on it then select properties. Then click the details tab and the info about where it was taken would be there along with other information about the picture e.g. camera it was taken with, date... etc

While some smart phones do offer geotagging of pictures this is NOT true of all pictures and requires specific software to read it.
