Anyone know any horror movies that will freak you out so bad?
Hi, I love horror movies but I heard that the classics are the best. Can anyone tell me some that are extremely scary that will make you want to hide under your bed? Lol. Thanks

Turn the lights off in the whole house and watch the original "The Omen" and "The Exorcist". The original "Halloween" is pretty good. If you mean classics as in Black and White, "Dracule" with Bela Lugosi is my favorite.

'The Ring' scares the living crap out of me... can't watch that on my own!

Oh, and for a classic 'The Shining' scares the bejesus out of me too! Anything with scary little kids in it to be honest! Lol!

    Wondergirl
    "Carrie" with Sissy Spacek.

I agree with Giani, The Exorcist is one of the scariest.

I was just wondering... not wanting to steal the thread or anything... but do you think horror movies effect you more as you get older?

I mean, when I was young films like 'The Exorcist' made me laugh because I didn't really understand it!

Now, when 'Silent Hill' came out, I went to see that and it absolutely ruined me for weeks!

Or do people think that it's just that horror films are getting better?

Personally I wouldn't say they are getting better, I think it has more to do with the film quality and the effects that can be done in this day and age.
But saying that most horrors today seem to focus more on gore I think older horrors were more suspenseful and that's what made them scarier.
Then again horror movies have never botherd me so I could be wrong :)

But I would deffinately say the exorcist or maybe poltergiest. Or you can never go past any of the Romero classics like night of the living dead, they may not be oh so scary but they're a damn good watch! I love zombies!!

I'm 12 so that's probably true. I was more effected when I was like 5 though, nightmares! Lol. I heard 'The Exorcist' makes you want to run for your life. I'll have to turn the lights off when nobodys home so I will get extremely scared lol

The Exorcist, Exorcist: The Beginning, The Ring, The Grudge, and the newer Amityville Horror are my top picks of scary movies. These movies scared the H*** out of me when I saw them, and with The Grudge, I couldn't sleep for days afterwards because I kept picturing the woman's eyes staring at me! The new Amityville movie was like that, too. I saw it in theatres, and was literally close to walking out from being so scared! I thought I could handle it a second time, so I went back the next night, and CRIED afterwards because it scared me even worse than the first time! I had to leave, and then I didn't want to go outside after it was over! Doesn't help either that I'm terribly afraid of the dark, but I still love watching horror films! Just not alone or with the lights off! ;)

I love older horror movies. I like ones that are more psychological those scare the heck out of me. I've found all the recent ones to rely on cheap scares or gore to fill in the plot or make up for the lack of a good build up or a real monster.

Though if you are looking for totally creepy I recommend the Night of the Living Dead. Man to this day that is the SCARIEST movie I have seen in my life. The newer version of Dawn of the Dead scared the heck out of me too. When I was kid Nightmare on Elm Street scared me beyond belief so that might scare the heck out of you too :) The original The Hills Have Eyes is pretty creepy (not the one that just came back go back to the 80's). The Thing is a great movie too.

If you want something that is totally random as a horror movie I'd recommend Dead Alive and the Evil Dead series as well as Army of Darkness. They are just awesome gore fests but in a offbeat way.

    Get those night lights ready!

The reason I think The Exorcist is so scary, is that it could really happen.

    But I guarantee I won't get freaked out :P

To answer iAMfromHuntersBar, who asked "do you think horror movies effect you more as you get older?", it depends on the movie. When I was younger, I loved gore. I read Fangoria. I watched those movies for the splatter. Movies now, like Saw, Hostel, etc. are twisted as if it were real or that it could happen. These movies didn't have a happy ending where the bad guy dies and the virgin gets away. But to really answer this iAMfromHuntersBar and 900295, was the movie "It's Alive" I saw that movie when I was 4-5 years old. I was never right after that. I couldn't put my feet down from the bed or sofa. I had to leap away from the chairs and jump from the doorway onto the bed. I faced my fears in my late 20's - early 30's and laughed at myself. Of course, movie technology changed in three decades. Back then, that movie was frightening. I recommend that every horror buff see this movie. If the DVD has the original trailer, watch that first!

Wolf Creek is like a bizarre gore fest. Its an Eli Roth film so its like gore porn. Don't eat before watching is my only disclaimer.

    Thanks for your answer!

When I was younger I was scared of the Marshmellow Man from Ghostbusters! I used to have really bad nightmares about him, so much so that my Dad had to explain that he was only a tiny model and it was all done with special effects! Lol!

Still scares me a little bit now to be honest! :(

I definitely think movies get scarier when you're older because you know some of the stuff actually happens, also you have a greater sense of your own mortality. After 20 I've become a real scaredy cat. I also think some films have become sadder as I have more empathy than when I was younger, for example I cried at the end of sixth sense the umptheenth time I watched it because I suddenly knew what it would be like to lose the love of your life. Ah the joys of a fully developed limbic system.

One thing I've found as I get older... I like movies that make you feel things, like horror films. And even chick flicks, but only if they've got a little comedy in them.

I actually liked the new Dawn of the Dead (haven't seen the old one), and it's comedy counterpart, Shawn of the Dead.

Now, lets all get together for movie night :)

Pardon my ignorance but who is Eli Roth? Im not much of a horror man so perhaps I'm wrong but from my understanding this is an Australian film written and directed by Greg Mclean and set in Australia. It is based in true events about a psycho who captures and tortures backpackers in outback Australia.

I have always loved horror movies and the 'blood and guts'. Even though I know it is all fake and special effects, I still get scared. I think 28 Days Later was the movie that really scared me. It's a zombie movie, but it left me with one of those disturbed feelings after watching it. I also like The Hills Have Eyes, all of the Saw movies, Jeepers Creepers (the second one wasn't very good), and most of the 70's-80's horrors such as Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Probably the absolute worst horror film I've seen was Boogeyman. I felt they were going in the right direction, but the ending seemed like they just gave up or ran out of ideas. You guys have pointed out a lot of movies I haven't seen yet though, time to update my Netflix!

I wish I could but I can't remember the name of the dang movie. It was about a razorback pig terrorising the Australian outback. I think Jameson Parker was the lead in it though, darn Alzheimer.

Update; It was Gregory Harrison who played the lead and here is the link,
    Razorback (1984)
    Really good movie.

I know most people hate this movie, but it creeped me out for weeks when I first saw it opening weekend at the theatre... Blair Witch... I have a terribly vivid imagination, and most of the gore movies I'm just numb to because I watch them all the time... so if you give me a movie, where my imagination is the villain, Im scared out of my mind literally... wow! Brilliant.

Otherwise, watch the hills have eyes alone in a dark room, and you'll start hearing those guys... lol... I also was afraid of the exorcist as a child, and poltergeist really freaked me out when I was younger. Im still frightened of the shining, and leprechaun has given me a deep fear of little people... no offense to any out there, its psychological, I think I saw this for the first time when I was 5... LOL

I thought the Blair Witch was creepy as well. Especially if you attempt to put yourself in that kind of a situation. I think it would've been so much better had it not been "leaked" that it was fake.

Wolf Creek was pretty good - there was one scene that just comes out of no where and gives you a nice scary movie surprise!

I love 28 Days Later and a lot of the slasher flicks from the 70's and 80's. Halloween is great (the new one is horrible), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorites. I also really like Friday the 13th. Nightmare on Elm Street never did it for me - I always hated that Freddy talked, lol. Silence of the Lambs is good, Cannibal Holocaust wasn't bad, and there's a German film from the 1930's called "M" that I thought was great. No gore, no violence, but the use of shadows, music and pacing was amazing. I also really liked Nosferatu.

The Rob Zombie movies, House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects were gory and Sherri Moon Zombie's laugh is just nuts. It all depends on what you're looking for!

Did anyone see , "Sand Man" I saw that awhile back, I thought it was OK. I liked it cause they turned him into glass at the end. I can't really remember if it was the scary, and what about the first "Candy man" that had some good parts to it.

I saw Cannibal Holocaust for the first time a couple weeks ago. Because it's been banned and panned, I thought I might enjoy it. The parts of the film involving animals were just too hard to watch. Plus I was eating lasagna...

"M" is probably one of the creepiest films ever. I only ever saw it because it came in a Fritz Lang collection. The whistling was what made it eerie.

Werner Herzog's Nosferatu is the most visually appealing.

My favorite horror film right now is from France. It's titled High Tension, and it's kind of like Texas Chainsaw Massacre-meets-Fight Club. WIth chicks. One big, fun creepy psychological bloodbath.

I couldn't watch Candyman, it scared the hell out of me! Lol!

I think what made Cannibal Holocaust so tough to watch and so disgusting was the animal scenes, but I have to admit, the scenes with the filmmakers violating and abusing the tribesmen were really graphic and bad.

High Tension was good, I had forgotten about that one. Some of the things that happened didn't make a lot of sense to me given the ending (like the first scene with the guy in the truck) but it was pretty well done anyway. I thought it was creative and liked the twist they took with the girl.
