Hey Glinda, A quick answer here is Shadow of the Vampire. It is the 1st movie I saw on DVD, not that that has any bearing on it. If you love classy monster movies, you'll like this. A 55 y.o. Puerto Rican friend of mine told me that he saw the original Nosterafu as a kid, and had nightmares for years! "Shadow..." is about the making of that movie. If you haven't seen it, I recommend that you don't ask, or read anything about it. It is a treat.

Yes, the first "Night of the Living Dead" was filmed in and around my hometown. I was young and this made the film very scary, All the areas that they were mentioning in the film were right "next door". In the film, towards the end there was a scene where the reporter was walking in the morning with the police and other officials and this guy was also the regular reporter on local TV. This made it even more powerful, very scary.

When I was a really little kid I remember watching an episode of Night Gallery that absolutely, positively traumatized me - to the point that even as an adult I needed to make sure that my closet door was closed before going to bed at night.

This is my remembrance (as I was watching from behind the couch when I should have been in bed): There is this creature that lives in the walls of an attic. A woman talks to the being and they seem to have some sort of a tenuous relationship. Things happen and her husband gets mad at her and he goes up to the attic. A thump... and then the husband slowly walks down the stairs and as he turns towards his wife we all know the creature is within him!! :eek:
He kills her and I can't sleep at night because the entrance to my family's attic is IN MY CLOSET!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Last year the new cable station Chiller began running all the Night Galleries. I obsessively Tivoed every one trying to find that one episode in hopes of facing the fear and getting it out of my system. At last I get it: "Something in the Woodwork." I clutch my husband's hand while I watch it... and it was totally lame!! Hokey and really not scary at all. I felt pretty stupid, but now I can sleep with the closet doors open. :p

The poltergeist movie's, they always scared the crap out of me and my friends

The scariest movie (also a book) is the original black and white Haunting of Hill House.

The Haunting (1963/I)

I'm not kidding when I say I couldn't watch the movie in it's entirety until I was in my 30's. The surprising thing about this movie is that not much actually happens except for a few really scary things. It's the build-up of suspense that gets you. The movie was absolute butchered in the 1999 version where they went all hollywood on it and ruined it.

I love 28 Days Later and a lot of the slasher flicks from the 70's and 80's. Halloween is great (the new one is horrible), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorites. I also really like Friday the 13th. Nightmare on Elm Street never did it for me - I always hated that Freddy talked, lol. Silence of the Lambs is good, Cannibal Holocaust wasn't bad, and there's a German film from the 1930's called "M" that I thought was great. No gore, no violence, but the use of shadows, music and pacing was amazing. I also really liked Nosferatu.

The Rob Zombie movies, House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects were gory and Sherri Moon Zombie's laugh is just nuts. It all depends on what you're looking for!

I still can not watch "the changling" ( with gregory peck) with out freaking out about the ball scene. Not gory but a true ghost story.

When I was a kid my friends sister had a all girl sleep over. She was in High School and she asked me to get her the scariest movie I could think of for her party

That movie was The Entity!

Now that I think about it it may not have been age appropriate and I was told that a few of the girls had nightmares for days after.

There's not that many good horrors out now and none that I can say scares me looking at them now I wish there was 1 I love horrors.when I was akid the ones that did scare me was nightmare on elm st,holloween,american werewolf in london and the one that really fcked me up was salems lot especially the part when the 2 brothers get lost in the park and during the night 1 brother floats to his brothers room as a vampire that played on my mind big still as a 9 year old the omen and the exorcist are good as well.the exorsim of emily rose isn't bad for a scare either.

Well, there is wide range of classics but the old ones may not scary for u. darcula, exorist, night of living deads, animal semitary, freddy or the cloud are pretty much the classics and I still enjoy them. However now the Japanese are the best dark waters or ringu are much more scrary then the good old classics...

I can remember one movie I saw from the mid to late 80's that was called Rawhead Rex. I will scare the hell out of you!

I'm love horror movies watching them over but the two I won't watch again is the first grudge and silent hill creeped me out
