Some people do it for the same reason people do drugs - the rush. Other people do it for attention. Some people do it for the same reason people get tattoos - They like how it looks. If you think I'm crazy, look up scarification. Everyone has their own reason.

Just to answer your question, I did when I was back in high school, to be honest I first did it to get attention as my friends were doing it, very stupid of me because after awhile, (still during high school) I started using it as an easy-quick and simple stress and emotional release for myself, for problems like. When I was a reason for a couple breaking up, to the stress of parents arguing, being yelled at for no good reason.
But the most recent and last time that I had done 'that' was because I always "hide" my emotions, not sharing my issues which had caused it to build up, and at this point all it needed was a stick of a pin and it will explode and that's what exactly happened, where I cut myself 3 times that pierced all my skins levels (not sure if it's a real thing, but you get the point), and was rushed to hospital and nearly institutionalized.

To be honest, yeah I am abit proud of them, cause now since they are there, they are a constant reminder of what I've been through and how I handled it (which wasn't a good idea), but it lead me to the mentally of not giving a damn of what people really say or do and a chance to improve myself since I'm still alive and all
