Cutting has to do with control. When life seems out of control and you feel at your most helpless, that's when you want to cut.

A counselor would help you find positive ways to be in control of your life--what's going on around you, how to deal with negative things people say to you, and how to make better choices. And yes, cutting is your choice, is not involuntary on your part.
