I've recently been given lamotrigine. Dr wants blood test. What's the appropriate range he expects to see to tell him if I am getting enough in my system?

I'm reading that there is no appropriate range - it's whatever dosage works for you.

Ask your Physician if you need more specific info.

Majority of doctors do not test for blood levels for this drug. This drug is dependent on dose and how you respond to certain doses to this medication. I am unsure why it is that the doctor wants to check levels of this drug.

Question? Are you seeing a specialist that prescribed this or is it a family doctor that prescribed this medication?

Joecanada, you are medically trained, and I am not, but my Pharm Handbook says that the drug is monitored via blood tests due to the possiibility of both liver and kidney disease.

That's what I'm reading but, as I said, I have no medical training.

My current amount is one per day of 100/mg and it's my understanding that he wants me to be able to get along with the least amount so as to protect my liver. JudyKay, I won't be taking advice from the internet but I will check with him again so that I will have a more thorough understanding. Appreciate the help that both of you gave to me.

My wife is on 500 mg per day. It is a fairly high dose. Each person is different how they respond to certain medications and why they are prescribed.

Your circumstance is different but in all the doctors and specialists my wife has seen they have never once did a blood level check for this drug specifically.

100 mg is actually a fairly low dose. Question does he/she have you splitting that dose in the morning and at night? Or just one dose per day? Just curious.
