Sharp stabing Pain above my left rib cage?
I have had a sharp stabing pain above my left rib cage, right under my breast it comes and goes though it seems if I sit a certain ay it is more likely to last longer. Can anyone tell me what this could be. They have been going on for a while and about a few minuets ago I had a really bad one and thought I should get some advice

    ANYONE?
P.S. My breathing seems to have no factor in this pain

Sounds like its possibly musculoskeletal chest pain. I have this, and its quite common and nothing you can do about it. And it can be caused by any number of things.

HOWEVER. It may NOT be that. And I suggest you see your doctor so that he/she can take a look and rule other things out.

    Good luck hon.

As I can see there can be hundrand reason for this, if it is not associate with following it is unlikely to be a emergency or bad cardiac (heart)cause- sweating, sense of increasing your heart rate, difficulty in breathing, pain radiating to neck or to left hand along the armpit side & aggravating with work or exercise.
Other comman causes are - Gastritis, gastroesophayeal reflux disease, Muscular skeletal pain at the juction of your ribs connecting to the middle chest bone.
You have to know many psychological problem, stress, angeer depression can cause similar pain some time with palpitation (sense of beating heart faster).
Depeding on your age you should be screened if this affecting your day to day activities.

    Thanks ramuthukuda.
What you said helps me a lot. Ive had this sort of pain in and round my left breast and right breast its very painful and due to my age of 17 when I first started getting the pain I just disregarded it as nothing too important even though it did scare me a little bit.
Would you suggest that I see another doctor the first doctor I saw immediately gave me antidepressants after a 10min consult and I did not get the script filled because I didn't think it had anything to do with it plus I didn't think I was depressed..
    Thank you :)

Sadly most doctors seem to just want to prescribe almost blindly. I would go for a second opinion. Maybe a chiropractor. Definitely look at someone else.

I have had pain on my left hand side of my body above my ribs just under left bust. It is a nagging pain, aching. Every morning I wake up sweating profusely and this pain is there. I go to the toilet and the pain is still there. I eat and the pain is still there. It feels like I have been punched in that area. I have pain radiating down my left arm, under left arm. This has been going on for 15 months now. I have seen the GP. I have had a breast scan - normal; chest x-ray normal; gastroscopy - slight inflammation but normal; breast scan - normal; two ultrasounds of the abdomen - OK cannot see anything abnormal; blood tests which have shown borderline diabetes. What can this be? I have asked my GP for a ct scan and he has refused. What can I do? I am 60 years old. I do not moan for notthing - this pain is real!
