Rash that looks like Chicken Pox.
    Good Evening...

I am a female in my 40's. Have had Type I diabetes for 30+ years. Had the chicken pox when I was around 7, and shingles when I was in my 20's. I recently developed a skin rash that I can't figure out. It started with the skin itching, then hives broke out (not uncommon-I break out in hives since I was little due to hot/cold), but now I have spots appearing all over my body that look and act just like the chicken pox. I itch terribly, the spots turn into blisters with clear fluid and then crust over. Went to doctor and he put me on an anti-itch med for hives and an allergy drug. He feels I'm having an allergic reaction to something. I have never had allergies before and can not recall changing anything in my life style. This is going on for 6 weeks now (just went to doctor 3 days ago). Any guidance what this could be? I have it on my legs, stomach, chest, few on arms and back. Even when sore is crusted over... it still itches. I think this doctor is looking down the wrong road. With diabetes, my immune system is low, therefore, could it be possible to get chicken pox again? Or does anyone know of any other rash this could be? I've researched for weeks now and cannot pin point an answer. Thanks!!

My son had immune problems due to medications that he was on and had chicken pox twice when he was small... confirmed by the doctor both times.

It seems like Chicken Pox would have run its course in six weeks.

It is possible that you have a contact dermatitis, and that your dry skin from diabetes makes it look like the scratched pink bumps get scale-y after they are mostly healed. That happens to me in a minor way.

My nephew has Type I Diabetes and we found out when he broke out into a terrible rash and his skin started pealing like a bad sunburn. It was all over his body. His sugar was very high and once it was under control the skin problem went away. Talk to the doctor who treats your diabetes or find a diabetic specialist. I think there may be some connection.
