Actually, Judy, same in Canada, socialized (thank god) but yes, general doctor has to refer to a specialist, but no big deal. My doctor is diligent that way and has been good for my diabetes. Blood test every six months for everything, no change in meds, one metformin a day for last five years. So I consider myself lucky to be controlling the diabetes well with the help of a good doctor.

I would never consider going off my meds and just use diet and exercise. I am taking care of myself. I seem to have too many diabetic clients these days, some with renal failure not wanting dialysis and two on dialysis. Being so close to diabetes personally and professionally, is a real eye opener.

I know you have first hand knowledge because of your husband.

Many thanks for advice. I always have a packet of sweeties in my bag just in case. trouble is I'm tempted to eat them and so put on weight. Will check out the nearest hospital and see what services are on offer there. thanks again.

Glucose tablets are another option, and you won't be tempted to eat them... :D

Sweeties (candies) and glucose tablets cannot possibly be confused.

    Hi JKT
Things are bowling along fine at the moment. I actually did buy a book called "Diabetes for Dummies" which is brilliant. Will certainly be less of a dummy by the time I get to the end of it Got my blood test results back last week and all is A okay which has perked me up and the sun is shining after weeks of dreary days and rain. So can now relax a bit. Take care
