    where to ask own probability questions
    A university has to select an examiner from a list 6
    of 50 persons. 15 of these persons are women
    and 35 are men. In these 50 persons, 10 persons
    know hindi and 40 do not know hindi. 20 of the
    50 persons are teachers and remaining 30 are not.
    What is the probability of selecting a hindi
    knowing woman teacher ?

    If you assume each of these traits are independent, then the chance of picking a Hindi speaker is 10/50, the chance of picking a woman is 15/50, and the chance of picking a teacher is 20/50. When considering the probability of a series of independent events all occurring you multiply together the probabilities of each individual event. For example if the probability of 'a' occurring is p, and the probability of 'b' occurring is q, then the probability of both 'a' and 'b' occurring is p x q.
