What's the best part about being a member at AMHD?
Even though there are times when we don't hear back from posters, I believe we've helped them and that's why they don't show up again.

It's like I told a boss, years ago: Doing a good job here is like wetting your pants in a dark suit... you get that nice warm feeling but nobody notices.

    Great thread you have started,
    Aye aye captain!!

:D Yes the warm feeling is what we work for...

But I do believe a bit of constructive criticism from the senior members will help me more...

Well, you are seldom at a loss for something to do. Seriously, even though it is very frustrating at times, I know sharing what I know with their owners has made life better for many dogs. Earlier I helped in several other areas. As we added people that knew more than me in those areas, I have done less and less. I certainly have more to do than get in the way of those that know more than me in those areas.

The best part of being a member is that I have "met" some incredible people on here. Have learned one than one thing also in the process.

Help you more than what? I've watched some of your posts, and I think you're doing fine. We can frequently be our own worst critics.

Well, the members here make it worth it more than anything else.

But really... I like helping people. If I could help ONE person, it makes it worth the frustrations.

Helping others is its own reward.

We are blessed with a great variety of brilliant minds.

And I truly believe we're taking time from our own lives to help others. I've never been to any other help site and, frankly, I don't think I ever will.

I know this is pretty much a repeat, but I agree about the people here. There are some wonderful people here and I feel priviledged to know them (well, know them online of course :p)

It also makes me feel go to know that I possibly helped someone. :)

Maybe its being called a bully and some of the other (worse) things I've been called here, and the chance to show such people up. <EG>

    Aye captainRich,
We could be our worst critic

I feel thankful to have met some of the members here and honored to be accepted as their friend...
The feeling I get from helping one person out does anything in the world for me. Bringing people together or just helping them with a small problem is a sure good feeling.
Not to mention all the fun we have chatting about.
    Oh I love this place!
    Thank you, ALL of you!

Yeah, same here. Is there anybody that doesn't admire the finesse Tom displays handling bad answers in plumbing?

I like the fact that this site and the wonderful friends I have made here helped me so much in a time when no one seemed able to help. And now I like to think that I'm putting back in what I took from the site by helping people where I can.

But if the people here weren't so good I wouldn't bother.

Arguments are good in a way, those like me who read threads find it interesting to see both sides of a story...
Sometimes a good argument where each one is giving well informed answers are the best threads!! :D

That's why I seem to be at the PC any free minute I get!!

Thats why I seem to be at the PC any free minute I get!!!

It is enjoyable to see the diversity of opinions showing up here.

No matter the thread, we've got life experiences from around the world. And everybody has an opportunity to comment. I think it's more open at the Desk than if we were all milling around the same room having cocktails or something.

But I'd like for Scott and the Admin's to arrange a cookout for us! :D We could check out Rick's new patio! :p

I like the pay. My monthly cheques from AMHD allow us to travel to visit my parents.

I thought people here just help others without getting paid.
    It's not volunteering?
Who are those getting paid? Are all the "Ultra members" and "Experts"?

That was a joke. But the site itself is not non-profit at least not intentionally. The owners of the site do want to make a profit. Whether they do or not I don't know.

However, all help provided on the site is on a volunteer basis. Answering questions publicly is done without any rumenration. However there are two fetures offered by the site. If an asker is pleased with the help they have received, there is an option to "tip" the responder by transferring an amount of the asker's choosing to the answerer's Paypal account. Some answerers are willing to take the help to the next level with personal, real time, one on one help on a fee basis. I've had a couple of people request IM and phone help for specific issues.

Also, most experts also get a Google adsense ad on any replies they make to a forum that they are expert in (If they have set it up), any profit from those goes directly to the expert.

In over 6 months I have made nearly $5 from these ads. Score!

When I first found this site, I had a computer problem.. then I just browsed around and read some threads and automatically felt that this was a group I wanted to join.
From all around the world, old, young, different cultures and experiences.. Where else can you find such a wonderful place?
I wouldn't give it up for anything. The people I met here cannot be replaced in my heart or mind.

This is my "home away from home" and I'm glad that we can help as much as we do.

It makes me proud to be a part.

    http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_165_14.gif Thumbs up for AHMD!

I think this is a great place to be ourselves. I can express all of my feelings and say whatever is on my mind. I have met many insightful and beautiful people, who I have connected with and learned from. I also feel very good when I am able to give someone advice and it actually helps them. I like hearing back from people. I feel very accepted and loved on here and when I started my first thread, I was struggling so much and feeling so badly. I still struggle and have days where I feel dreadful, but the people here always lift me up. Thanks to all of you.

Helping someone really sets off a feel-good chain reaction. See the effects of the simple act of helping, and you'll realize that you really do make a difference in the world.

I see how differently each of us thinks over the same thing. We learn to accept each other and be humble.

Learning is the most enjoyable thing in our life!:)

I agree 100%. It feels so good to be able to help someone. It is also so cool to see how people from different countries and cultures can come together to help each other and everyone brings their own unique perspective. It's also cool to see that we are all pretty much the same no matter where you go.

Well I think that we can all agree that we have all learned a lot from one another. Which I guess is also the idea of this site. ;)
