What the h3ll are they going to do when the 'lie' is over... they are saying that they know what is best for us.. (fall in line now) and they are taxing it heavily so everyone quits this nasty habit... WELL... when that happens (if it does) and we all quit... the truth will come out... where the h3ll are they going to get all the taxes that they will NOT be getting from us smokers..! (Millions... )

I am not saying that smoking is good for you... of course not... but the government's hypocrisy is sickening... the government keeps thinking that they know exactly what is good for us... seems to me I read about this crap in history class... didn't work then either...

Just saying... stepping down off my soap box now... leaving... :)

EDIT: Sorry Shazy...didn't want to steal the thread....just getting angrier and angrier....

No worries Stringer, steal away ;)

It is my coice to smoke I know it is bad for me. It is my money.
Why does the government care so much about my health? Here they are putting all this money into quit campaigns and they refuse to rebuild the near falling down hospital in the capital

I hope they actually put the new tax to good use, not just do more dodgy quit campaigns... they don't wotk.
They have quit smoking campaigns here on TV about ever half an hour... when I see them, it makes me want to smoke! Grrrr...

I'm not a smoker but my state is the top tobacco-producing state in the US so it brings a lot of revenue to NC. I see it this way: as long as you know the perils associated with smoking, I'm not going to preach. Sure I'd love for all of my friends to quit but I respect their choice; just like they respect my choice to not smoke. So they know they can't smoke in my house (but outside on the porch is ok) but I also know if I get in their car they're probably going to light up.

I agree Stringer about the hypocrisy of the government wanting to ban smoking and hiking the taxes so high in order to force you to quit BUT they don't have a problem spending the tax money they collect.

Ok sorry that I joined in on hijacking the thread... :o

    Me too, sorry Shaz....

They brought in what the called the "Alcopops Tax" here a while ago and it basically doubled the price of pre-mixed alcohol drinks to prevent teenagers from binge drinking...
You know what happened... all the teenagers started buying bottles of straight top shelf and drinking it because it was cheaper... FAIL
They then had to recall the tax because it was found out that the government never actually approved it!
There were millions of dollars they had collected that they never should have  bet you we will never see that money going to something good.
Now they are bringing the tax back in  They really never learn.

Have you ever seen a government tax... local, state or federal ever repealed? Maybe but one or two in what over 200 years.

Did you know that the federal income tax is a 'temporary tax' here in the U. S. Yep it was initiated in the early 30's I believe and it was intended for only 2 or 3 years to help with the depression. But... guess what it is still here and being raised constantly.. poor management, poor judgment and poor planning... So, how do they keep it alive? They have to vote to renew it every 2 or 3 years. And now, we are printing paper money like there is no tomorrow... great, now our kids and grandchildren will be paying for this forever. And trust me, they will also find new and 'better' taxes for them to pay in addition to all this...

Yeah, I know... more rage, is anyone in government even listening?

If the gov never approved it, how did it happen? Who passed it down to the merchants? Did they investigate who set this wheel in motion?

WHOOPS I completely missed this :o
Yes top shelf is straight alcohol and as for the government not passing it... I really don't understand how it happened, Our government is divided into all different parties and I think one particular party just enforced the tax before it was passed by federal parliament.

Here's my latest artsy creation. A set of two standard poodle wine glasses for my mums friend.
I think I took about 20 photos and this one had the least glare... sorry!

They are almost the same here in Ontario Canada. I don't smoke. Most people here buy from the reserve where the cigs are half the price of the government, but no one really knows what they are made of !

Well, we have almost the same thing Tick... when I lived in North Carolina I had a friend whose dad owned a bacca farm. At one point in the process they have to dry out the bacca so they leave it in piles on the ground. Everything that you can think of does their 'business' on these piles; birds, dogs, etc. And then it is bundled up and hung for additional drying... yep we are smokin' that stuff, along with some gunpowder to keep the bacca burning, ever see a cigarette 'spark?'

Guess I'll get us back on track...

I painted this Mickey montage for my son's bathroom; it goes around the entire bathroom. I taped off the edges for the blue and red lines and then painted all the little boots, gloves, and ears. Then went back and added the detailing. From start to finish, it took me about a month because I was doing it at night after he was sleep (plus allowing the coats of paint to dry). It's not perfect, but it was done out of love for my little boy. And I even wrote a special message to him behind the door. :)

Every night when I get him out of the bathtub he points the ears and says "Mee Mau". :o

    Sounds pretty big to me.
    I have a 3Bed 1Bath and a small(ish) yard.

Our toilet is ridiculously small, the door almost hits the actually toilet when you open it
The giant shower makes up for it in the bathroom though :D
